Best pedal for a solid state half stack

I was a hard sell on it, but I finally got on board with it.

Just to clarify we are all agreeing that we use alot of mids now right? I had the scooped issue for a bit, especially on one of my previous amps that didn't have multiple channels, I liked the scooped tone for leads, and thought it made the rhythm better too. Now I've got multiple channels and I crank the mids for rhythm and do whatever the hell I want for leads.

Yup. We agree. Just work behind the board for a bit, and the lesson will find you.

Just a little update....went to the music store again, bugera wasnt there, but the guy that worked there didnt reccomend them because they break so easily...even under warranty its an inconvienence you shouldnt have.

The guy also set us up on the HD100 and played around with settings and stuff and got it to sound pretty good at one point...but still had a little digital fake sound to it.

bugeras out..
line 6 may be in..
still on the lookout for used peaveys..!

Line6 is going to grow old to your buddy's ears with a quickness.

Yup I'm with Toker, and honestly I haven't heard any of these "modeling" heads sound not digital yet. And I seriously think that your buddy will be mores satisfied with a high quality combo rather than a mediocre stack. And a good combo will have a line out so that you can hook it up to a 4 speaker cab if you want to later. 50-60 watt all tube combo through a 4 speaker cab will scream dude. Look at it this way, from what I understand your friend won't be playing live right away. Have him get a combo now for practicing at home and then when the time comes to start playing shows, and he doesn't want to mic the combo, upgrade to 4 speaker cab to move more air. Somehow I feel like I'm beating a dead horse though...

I ABSOLUTLEY agree with this 100%

he ought to just go ahead and buy that Peavey Windsor half stack with the 100 watt tube head because this is an amp that he will not outgrow any time soon and the price is definitely right.
Heck you will not find a decent combo for that price.

LOL
hahahaha

i was shinkin the shame shing about the line shix..itd get old just like he got sick of his line6combo after a few weeks

yea i mean, i feel the same way about mentioning a combo to him..ill be like dude check out this beast tube combo! and hes like oh dude i found a cheap cab the other day so dont worry about the combo!..whats wrong with this combo tho itd save you money and sound better?...nothing bro i just found a cheap cab!...what if i told you this combo could be just as loud as your cab?...(he looks at me defeated...but still wants that cab)

anyways...okay...ONE more time...guys send me some good a$$ combos, that can crank like a mUhFuH and sound chugalishious!

(is any 412 cab capable of working with a combo?)

muh bad dude, when a thread gets up to 3 plus pages its kinda difficult to remember everything that was said. Also, the dead horse reference was me saying that after typing that post I kind of did remember it being talked about. I didn't remember anyone mentioning the line out before so I thought I'd be helpful. Didn't know I had to go through and reread the thread everytime I posted something.
Also, I don't know that the Windsor would achieve the tone his buddy is after. It seems to be geared more towards a classic rock styled player, though anything can be achieved through pedals, he can circumvent this by choosing a amp that meets his needs in the first place.

Everybody, from what you said I still think the 6505 combo is worth checking out.

Rogue, I reread the thread and didn't see the line out option mentioned, so I don't understand how that was such a repost, I think it's a valid option. Also, saw your post about the Windsor again. What you said about more money not necessarily meaning better ampage, totally true. And the Windsor seems to be one hell of an amp, but Peavey doesn't even market it as a metal amp, and seeing as most heads geared toward "metal" seem to cost gobs, I don't see how he's going to find a stack better than a great combo In his price range, though he is going to be the ultimate judge, well his friend anyway

yea i dont think the windsor would do the job for me friend.
and those mesa combos LOL he wishes he had that kind of money man!!!!

I honestly dont know what Im gonna do with the kid, I think hes realizing that hes gonna have to spend money to get what he wants. I might end up telling him to go with the randall stack at the begining of this thread, we have a friend that plays the same music up the road and hes has an older model of one and he says that it sounds pretty good to him..so Id imagine that this newer version could be better.

to be a pussy for a second, im sorry if it seems im not using any of you guys advice because I keep naming diff amps than yall pick out, its just most of the ones you guys say have the best sound are way to expensive, or way to used looking on ebay...even so, this helps me narrow my searches and helps knowing what kind of features and stuff I need to look for..and its cool yall are still helping what mmay end up being a lost cause haha

on a different note, I did just find and buy a different friend a peavey xxx for $650 on ebay about 30 mins ago hahaha
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=290303440668

we won it at the last second and I found this amp for him like 4 hours prior..im a damn good friend!

Congrats! I haven't played the trip x but it sure seems to have a lotta goodies on it (im droolin over the independent eq's!). That's the one thing my classic 30 is lacking, only two channels and same eq for each... o well. Good find let us know how it sounds.

PS: Now is the Cab debating ready to begin?

Gotcha dude, glad we cleared that up.

Everybody, I don't know much about cabs seeing as I only ever owned one and now i go combos exclusively, but based on Rogues earlier assesment the Windsor seems to be a pretty good deal, and I've always had good experiences with Peavey.

you can get a decent cab from Craigslist with V30's for under $200.

yea that peavey is lookin nice for the price..

and ive been hittin up craigslist as well, no v30s in my area yet

OH holey crap, Lookey what I just found and only one left. somebody needs to jump on this amp she is worth every penny!

anyway these crate 412 are sweet IMO. some people don't like the drivers but I have no complaints with them.
you have a choice between the straight or angled. they are also wired switchable 16 OHM or 8 OHM .
and the cabs are constructed from plywood so they are not going to weigh a ton when hauling them around

DAYYYYYUUMM THOSE LOOK NICE AND THE PRICE IS SICKKKKKK!!!!!!!

what would you go with cab wise for my friend? the crate or the peaveY?

and is that head better than the randall stack head i was lookin at earlier??
