Do some searches first for previous threads. This is like asking what car, boat, etc. is best - everything has it's advantages and disadvatages. So yeah, just do a few searches and when you start to get a few programs that sound like your liking, then come back with a few specific questions and we'll give you some info comparing them, etc. :)

Okay, can't argue with that man. Let me rephrase it: what is your favourite PC recording software and why? Thing is, I need to compare music software for an assignment and since I have very limited experience with anything other than Cool Edit, I thought I'd get some outside opinions.

Well my fave is Vegas. I've been using it since it first came out about 6 years ago, and it's very user-friendly and powerful. I've even started getting into video editing with it. For editing and "mastering" I love Sound Forge (although WaveLab is pretty good, too).

Ardour. http://ardour.org

Why? (1) It's free, and (2) it runs in a Microsoft-free environment. Oh, and (3) it comes with complete source code.

I like sonar 4 producer edition. It's easy to operate and a well rounded program. Also I use sound forge 7.0 for mastering, but for the money I like Magix Audio Studio Deluxe 2004

sonar 3 producer edition here.....its alright. its all i use....having completely figured out how to record stuff with flstudio just yet so i stick with what i know
