Best OS for CWPA9?

A tech at OLM (my web hosting service) is of the opinion that Win 2000 is a better Operating System for digital audio applications than Win XP; & I was hoping to get some feedback from audiophiles as to whether or not this is true. Thanks.

XP or Win2000 will go to waste with PA9. PA9 does not make use of the extra functionality and performance WDM audio drivers provide. If you plan on using XP or 2k, I would recommend using Sonar instead of you like Cakewalk products. You will see lower latency when working with digital audio.

I personally think the Sonar User Interface is light years ahead/better than the PA9 interface.

As far as 2000 being better than XP for audio, I think thats a bunch of crap. XP is significantly faster on my machine than 2000 was and my audio latency numbers have gone down as well.

The only problems I have seen with XP relate to other pieces of software (Logic Audio).

i've been hearing many reports that xp is a lot more stable than 2000 or 98. however, if you're going to be using cwpa 9, your best bet is millenium. and it all depends on what soundcard you'll be using. if it's an aardvark, forget about 2000 or xp until they release a decent driver.

Did you just say that cwpa 9 is best under WinMe? I disagree! If you don't want the stability you get with 2000 or XP, at least run Win98 where all the little gizzmos are gone! You'll even manage to record with win98!

Sorry 'bout my attitude...
It's just that when I updatet from 98 to Me, the system slowed down. It was REALLY slow (even with a clean harddrive), so with my SB Live! card, I couldn't record...

i stand corrected, i meant win98. i myself am running win98, not millenium. it's my audio drivers that are updated to millenium, so i got confused, but that hasn't got anything to do with this. what i mean is if you're using a soundcard from a company that has no reliable support for 2k or xp (hey aardvark!!), you should stay away from those op. systems until decent drivers come out. i don't know if millenium is any better than win98, since i haven't used it. but i heard someone in this very forum defend millenium over win98. anyway, i'm not sure if there are other soundcard manufacturers in that situation apart from aarghvark, but since i'm using their soundcard, i can tell this first-hand.

my 2 cents worth

I used windows 98 with cwpa 9, It worked perfect, everything mixed well, and I had no problem exporting my files. I made the mistake of upgrading to windows 2000 pro. Now when I export my files, there is no midi included, I have to record it over to audio first. I believe this is also a soundcard issue,, soundblaster pci 128. I am using cake9pa with xp and I dont really like it all that much..seesm rather confusing and I really dont like the cd burning software that came with the pc....anybody have a good cd burning software...mine uses a low level roxio called record now..yuck

can't tell what's wrong, ckpro9 or aardvark or win xp

I'm a bit confused in my situation and pretty troubled since there is a great computer show (with some great bargains) in town and don't know what to do and am missing a deal of a purchase to fix my problem.
I'm running an aardvark Q-10 on win xp with there new official pre release driver, with cakewalkpro9 on a p4 elpaso 82845 chip set. When I got to record 8 tracks at once, I get drop out and if it does record sometimes, I get skippy glitchy play back.
Others aark tell me are running fine on xp, so I'm thinking maybe it's cakewalk that's got the problem. One guy in this forum says cakewalk is crap with xp. Is anyone running cakewalk smoothly in xp recording 8 tracks at once??? That would tell us what's up if no one is running 8 tracks good with ckpro9.
Myabe it's my p4 chip set, but doubt it.
What would you do if you were in my situation???
I want to go down to the computer show and get a deal on win98 and go back to that on my seperate hard drive, while I can keep my xp on the other hard drive and then operate aark Q-10 and cakewalk in win 98, till all this driver and xp update madness gets cleared up because win xp is a great system and very efficient and would like to have things running on it, but maybe cakewalkpro9 doesn't run good in xp????
