Best monitors for my buck ???

I perfer to spend under $200, but Im going to keep my budget uncapped,

I need monitors badely, I only want to spend $200ish but I will definantly spend more if I need to,

I want to get montors that will give me GREAT results and I knwo that with music, you get what you pay for but sumtimes theres gems out there for cheap taht do the job (SM57 - RNC and so on)

Does anyone know of cheap effective monitors? I heard the Studiophile SP8 were suppose to be great and they were being sold at like $200 but now the re back up to $500 again,

Do you guys have any other suggestiosn for cheap effective monitors????
 
do you know whats the difference form the "YSM1p" and "YSM1i" and YSM1?

I just looked online and seen teh YSM1p is the powered ones, I should of figured that out I guess.

Now if I go for the ones that arent pwered, could I hook it up to any reciver to power it? or would some recoevers affect the monitors differently? any other concerns

The"p" would be the Powered Yorkvilles, and they would cost more.

The YSM 1i is a newer model of the YSM 1.

You can get Yorkville on line and check out all of their products. Your price sounds good; the non-powered Yorks run around 200 and then there's shipping.

Also, Yorkville on line will give you name of the nearest dealer to your location if you want.

I use the Yorks, YSM-1 model and love them. Oh, there are better monitors but you can't go wrong for the money.

videodrone. No. You need special pro audio style amp, like a hafler ta1600 or something along those lines. You cannot just use your home stereo amp. Well you "can", but you can't, know what i mean?
 
Videodrone, what receiver/amplifier were you planning on using?

You dont 'need' a pro audio amplifier. There are many hifi amplifiers that can do as good or an even better job. However there are also many cheap consumer amps that do a very poor job (eg budget home theater receivers from Sony, Pioneer etc). Test the yorkvilles with amp you have now to see if it does an adequate job.

The good thing about passive monitors is the flexibility in upgrading. You can use the yorkvilles with the amp you have now. When you have more cash you can get a better amp and then a second set of speakers (eg full range mid/far fields).
 
Well, yea what alfalfa said. I mean you can use a good hi quality HI Fi amp. but i was refering to cheap sony/pioneer/kenwood whatever home recievers and stuff.
 
I went with the Behringer Truths 399 for the pair and I dont regret them one bit. Excellent monitors for the price!!!!!!!!!!
