Best monitors for me...

Hey everyone. I need new monitors. my budget is around $500 max. I was thinking about the Mackie ones, since they have rave reviews, but they are very $. what do you think is the best monitors I could buy for the $. also, do you think a subwoofer is necessary? thanks

Yorkville YSM1ps were recommended to me a while back and they are AWESOME. Guitar Center and Musician's Friend don't sell them though, so you might have a little trouble getting them.

Yeah, I found that out too. So I went with the KRK V6's

Not that much trouble. Find Yorkville on the net, ask them the location of the nearest dealer to you, and order them. I bought mine sight unseen and am happy with them.

Hey Dave I would go to your local music store with CDs that you really like and know how they sound and test monitors with them. If you have CD of any of your own stuff I would bring that to. There are a lot of nice monitors out there in different price ranges but for me I fell in love with the Blue Sky monitors with SUB. I bought the Blue Sky system one ($1400) and have never been more satisifed. I can turn the drums up to 10 and they don't flinch and then seem really accurate so far. Now you said $500 I would go to a sam ash near you and listen to the Blue Sky Pro Desk package whic run about $900-1000. It is the smaller version of mine but sounded damn good as well. I just waited and saved some extra dow and got what i really wanted you might want to consider that. I will also tell you that I sent an e-mail to blue sky for some information and they answered my question immediately and offered further help if i needed it. One happy customer.
