As you are using the PreSonus Studio One DAW, why not a PreSonus Mixer?
The 16.0.2 would be great for live AND recording.
It runs via Firewire and is definitely in your price range too.

The Mackie 1620 is a great mixer with a 16 channel FW interface already onboard. Can be had for 800ish.

Mackie 1640i or the 1620i would do nicely. Ive started with the 1640 and moved up to the latest model which is the 1640i. If you have that much to spend the Mackies are the way to go. Very nice preamps and the Perkins EQ's are fantastic too. If you can swing it the 1640i will give you 16 preamps vs 8 on the 1620i, and alot more routing options.
