best mics to capture punch

love the sound of shure sm57 but most mics to me fail to capture the punch of a loud marshall?mesa guitar amp it sounds so good in person and the recording sounds good but just really flat sounding. the immediate attack and punch is what im looking to capture . any help would be appreciated thanks

I can't really say with any certainty as I have no experience micing cranked Marshall or Mesa amps/cabs. But I have, and many seem to like, the Sennheiser MD421. It's maybe the second most popular mic for gtr cabs next to the 57? It's been a while - but I have gotten excellent results using it on my moderately cranked, overdriven BMRI. It's kinda common knowledge I think by now... placement is key. The same mic can sound very differently by just moving it a little. Anyway - take what I say cautiously - as I am pretty much a novice relative to many here.
