What is the best microphone for recording onto the computer. Because I want to have good quality of sound. Can anyone help me out?

probably a dynamic or a condensor or or or....... maybe you could be a bit more specific, ie what are you going to use it for, pricerange etc..

welcome btw..

If you're recording instruments, most people would say Schoeps.

For voice, an original AKG C-12 or a Telefunken Elam 251 seem to be heavy favorites.

thanks for the help, but how about something in my price range, cause i dont have a lot of money right now and those are like over a thousand dollars. anything around $150-200 that has fairly good quality?

 :D

I actually find that all my mics tend to record my computer well- as much as I'd like to keep the annoying fan noise OUT of the recording.... :D

Welcome to the board!

Check out the mics in the Studio Projects line for some well liked (and well hated) low cost options. The MXL 603s is another favorite for instrument recordings, though I think MXL just came out with an improvement- hopefully someone will happen along who's been paying closer attention than I.

The stalwart beginner-to-advanced mic of choice seems to be the Shure SM57- it'll grow with you and sound better with better gear. Its the rare mic that is a frequent first purchase and still used regularly 20 years later. Also the standard mic for guitar cabs. Not so hot on acoustics, except for live shows. Can even be used for a kick drum in a pinch.

Without having a better idea of what you are doing and what other equipment you may have, though, its hard to be more specific. For example, if you have no other preamps or audio interfaces other than the little plug on your computer... nothing is going to sound all that great- maybe concider something like the BLUE Snow Ball for the cheapest option? I have no idea how it sounds, but *nothing* is going to work well with an on-board sound card and the Snow Ball is USB.

Best I can do for now. I hope that was at least marginally helpful.

Edit: Whoops- I guess the Snowball hasn't been released, yet. Oh, well.

I have a Studio Projects C1 that works very well for guitar and vocals. You can get one for a good price on eBay, maybe 125 to 175, in that range.

Just to avoid editting my post AGAIN....

The Snow Ball IS apparently at Guitar Center and can be ordered at Sweetwater.

I thought maybe they were waiting for winter to save on shipping costs... :)

Apparently Samsom also makes a USB mic. Again, I have no idea how these sound, but they'll get you recording if you have no other equipment.

take care,
Chris

All of them, except maybe the Snowball which I doubt anyone has actually heard, yet.

SM57 is a standard snare mic and works well for tom's, and kick if you place it carefully
MXL603 is good for snare and toms
The SP mics would be better for overheads and room mics.
