Hi everyone, I have 400$ and I'm looking for a great studio mic, now i'm
using a shure sm57, it's great to mic amp's, but nothing especial to
vocals, and I'm looking a good mic, for Vocal's, more nothing.
Actually i have been seen the Rode's, the rode nt2a and the NT1000, but I
don't know if it is a great choise :s
Can someone tell me the best microphone to buy under 400:$ ?

Blue bluebird. i love it for vocals and acoustic!

But you need a mic equal in size to the ego of the singer. And a blue bluebird fills that gap nicely.

I guess one should ask, what DON'T you like about your CURRENT mic(s)? As in what do you want to change by getting a different / new mic? Do you just want something different? Something with a lower noise floor, better low end, less problematic for pops and sibilance? Other?

What voice? Male? Female? What Genre? Pop? Country? Hip Hop? What purpose? Podcast? Demo CD? Commercial CD? What will you be using on the back end? Interface? Preamp?

I just want a great mic to vocals, the other instrument's i don't need to record :b Now I saw the bluebird, and i think is great! but i don't know if is more better the rode nt2-a, or rode nt1000

My current mic dont have low noise.. it's a condenser small diaphragma and more things, but, i want a micro that can record a great quality female voice, and a male voice, but not thick, pop sounds, rock n roll (example: myles kennedy on the new album of slash) if you know what I'm saying..

and i wish could record jack johnson sounds, i would like the new micro can record with that quality, of jack johnson cd's quality

Best bang for the buck in that price range is the AT 40xx series mics, like the AT4040, 4035, etc....

Probably the best question that can be asked to you nunop is..... what is available to you in Portugal?
Not all manufacturers will be available to you and if they are there could be high import taxes.

Theres no problem, i buy all the things from Outside my country, can someone tell me if the rode it's a good chooise? :s for what i want, i like very much here :b

This is the mic's i have seen:
Rode NT2A
Rode NT1000
Blue BlueBird
MXL S-LINE SL51
Audio Technica AT2050
AKG Perception 420
Studio Projects CS1
Oktava MK 102

The mic can't have pops and sibilance and need to got a good low noise, and a
great quality for female voice, and male, like the jack johnson and
pixie lott sounds, on vocals

Well then let's throw the MXL V67g and the MXL 2003a into the mix.
You should be able to pick up both and stay well with in your budget nunop.

Studio Projects CS5. I have owned and use this mic over the course of 2+ years
and it has always done a fantastic job on everything from male and female vocals, Guitars, mandolin, fiddle, upright bass, irish bouzouki, accordion, the list goes on.....bottom line is that it is already modded with premium components and has performed way above my expectations.....the CS5 can be had for $300 or less !!

Thanks!
It's a lot of expensive :S anyone tested the Rode's?, and the blue bluebird?

The Rodes have a reputation for being overly bright in general. Which makes them favored in the video community because a little high end sheen helps with word clarity at a distance. The Rode NT1a is a common mention for those wish I still had mics with relation to studio-esque vocals. And probably a few other diamonds in the rough. But I don't have any experience with any rode mics yet. Almost picked up a couple NT5's here and there, but never bit that bullet. Almost picked up an NT4 once as well. Just a day late and a dollar short. And I don't do studio-esque or vocals (yet).

+1 on the bluebird. AT's are very good, but if you can A/B them you will choose the B-Bird every time.

...for $400 you can score a used Rode K2 on eBay...serious mic for a great price...but while you're looking, keep an eye out for a used Studio Projects T3 tube mic...they tend to go for $250-300...either of these will smoke any of the other recommendations (especially with a tube upgrade somewhere down the line) with the possible exception of the Studio Projects C5 (also excellent!)...just my .02c... ;)

I think i will buy the blue bluebird, i have seen the mic, in cover's,
and that's amazing, but next, one day, i will buy a good interface, because I'm using a
Line 6 Pod studio ux2.. Can anyone say to me if the bluebird is a good
choice? just for the last question

I don't have a large arsenal...but the Shure SM-7, the big blob mic that looks like something from a sports announcers booth, has been one of the best purchases I've made.

Not only the sound is alright, its rugged and has survived scream-o to whispering, to guitar amps and has an ability to reject the room.
