Best Mic PreAmp between $300-$400?

I am recording hip hop music. Primarily for emcees but also some vocalists when i am producing soul and such.

I am recording into a Roland VS-2480 and using a Rode NT2 mic...

thanks

Yo APEX = top of the line :D

In your price range, a good one would be the ART PRO MPA dual channel. I have one in my set-up and use it for about anything--synth/drum box or voice.

However, for vocals, I use the Grace 101 which only has one channel but is just a few bucks higher than the price range you mentioned.

There are plenty of models out there in your price range--perhaps you need to hear some of them or do more research of opinions.

Keep snappin` and rappin`

Green Hornet

hey, does the m-audio dmp3 work as a normal pre or is it just a pro/tools digi application. I have no experience with this at all. I was just wondering because i hear all the great things about it but couldn't find anything about anybody using it with non-computer based recording system.

The DMP-3 is strictly an analogue microphone preamp. It has Mic and 1/4 inch ins and balance 1/4 outs.

It doesn't get much simpler. It should be usable for you.

Strictly for vocals, I would check out the Groove Tubes "The Brick" preamp. The DMP3 is a very solid choice for a great price, also.

If you can extend your budget to $495 D&R makes an excellent transparent two channel mic preamp. It's a good all around preamp, but will not contribute a whole lot of added "character" to your signal chain.
