best mic pre under 25$

I saw 3 Rane MS-1's on ebay go for $75, which amounts to 25 bucks per channel.

You can score something like that, then order some INA-217 opamp chips from Texas Instruments for free. Then yank the crappy, socketed 2017 chips out of there and replace them with the TI 217's.

And then, my friend, you would truly be the proud owner of just about the best $25 mic pre I can think of.

Mic pre???!!! You don't need one of those thingies...that is all just a bunch of hype by the gear pimps. Just record right into your tape recorder's mic (ya'll know, that little thingie with the slats in it about 1" square) and you be just fine. Make some REAL NICE recordin's out' it, I tells ya...
