Every studio should find use with that one no matter how big or small ...

Heres a good one:

Take your pick:D
P.S. I recommend not skimping out on a good stand and pop filter

ummmm... idk that first one looks almost to cheap!!

funny guy!! lol

Uhhmmm ... Well,Iguess I am a funny guy but.
That first mic happens to be the most legendary mic in recording history..
I think I was trying to be more funny with the expensive mic.. Can someone please elaborate:)

Well:rolleyes: here is some usefull info ..
You do not need a dynamic mic because your preamp has 48v phantom power...

The cheap mic that you thought i was joking about is actually a good mic and can be used for snares and guitar amps and etc.
Even the rich guys have them in theyre big studios...

It is a good durable mic... You could kill somebody with that mother fucker and still do a show....:D

With the preamp you have the sure would would suit just fine..

But If you must spend a lil more money Then I also like the rhodes nt-1 ..

But I don't see the point in spending to much on a mic unless you get the expensive preamp to go with it.... whats the point in having a 2000.00 mic with a mobilepre usb.... These 2 are great to start with until you get that state of the art studio you always dreamed of:cool:

Hell i use the sures on every damn thing in my high end state of the art million dollar studio:confused:...

every single respectable engineer has used, or has one of these, and respects it like a good woman. Get the 58 and be done. rokinrandy gave you the best suggestion he could've. he's not joking. buy the mic, shoot it twice. "toss" the "mic" abit, it'll still work the same.

get the58. there's not another mic around like that.

I can't remember if this was a real thread, or if anyone ever made any real suggestions, but I'll speak my peace :)

I wouldn't suggest a dynamic like the 58 with something like the MobilePre simply because, as far as I've experienced, dynamics require more gain, and the preamps on this thing will probably sound like shit cranked up.

I would recommend a condenser, but of course, that also depends on your budget. Most budget condensers can have a harsh sound to them - people around the board seem to like the Studio Projects B1/C1, or the MXL V67. 'spose it also depends on what you're recording, but if vocals and acoustic guitars / other quiet sources are going to be recorded, don't buy an SM57.

If you are looking to only record your Marshall half-stack on 11, then yea, the 57 should be fine :D

Party Pooper. :p

Ok, sorry Kevin, just havin a little fun. What kind of voice do you have, what kind of music do you do, and what's your budget? These questions have much more to do with finding the right mic for you than what preamp you have, though that's another part of the equation.

:D

I Couldn't remember either.. Damn that was some good shit!!!
But I'm glad you spoke your peace..:)

Yes He's right, a good condenser mic would be best thing.
Sorry if me or anyone else would have led you to buy something that would probably sound like shit... But I pawned all my recording gear for crack last night so I could've told you anything:D

you have the phantom power and you don't really need a dynamic mic anyways..So be safe with a condenser

The rode nt-1 Makes good recordings for acoustic guitar and vocals over here.. I recorded for a duo The other day..A 12 and 15 year old and recorded and mixed with ease... good and clear..Noise free and has good volume

The Nt-1 is real easy to work with and it's a condenser like the Studio Projects b1,c1... But the B-1 is cheaper in price ...I have never played with a Studio projects..But I hear good things about them..:D

To make matters worse, the phantom power on the MobilePre is underpowered, so a lot of condensers sound like crap with it, too.

My advice would be an AT2020. It's an electret condenser, so it shouldn't be as picky about how much voltage is available (since the element is probably driven at three volts or something insanely low). It's a good solid mic that has pretty flat frequency response, so what you hear is pretty much what you get, which when you're starting out is pretty important, IMHO. You can experiment with mics with more character later. The AT2020 is also a cheap mic that you might actually keep using for some stuff later, unlike most of the other crap in the sub-$100 range. :)

You might also consider some of the MXL condensers, but I'd wait until somebody who actually owns a MobilePre says that it works decently. That's quite possibly the worst preamp you could buy. If it isn't too late to send it back, send it back. Otherwise, I'd start by adding an Art Phantom II to the thing to get true 48v phantom power.

So you are saying M-Audio is lying about the 48 volt phantom power

lol okay lots of sarcaism on here lol but hell theres sarcaism on every board lol

okay well i still havent bought a mic yet and there has been a lot of help on here!

and the reasone i purchased the mobile pre was because it ran as if it was its own sound card through USB and my on board sound messed up

but i also plan on doing rap msuic with a rock feel to it

that would be the music im trying to recored! more vocals than anything!

the rode nt-1 looks a lil bit outta my price range too =[

but i took a look at the AT2020 seems like a pretty good mic and more in my price range im thinking bout getting this one!!

p.s. and if any of yall have the mobile pre have yall had problems with the stereo mic input not work?

So you are saying M-Audio is lying about the 48 volt phantom power

Hmm. It looks like they've revised the specs. Maybe they fixed the problem. It used to just say "Phantom Power", and some folks measured them as low as 30 volts... unless there's more than one M-Audio product called MobilePre. Is there?
