best mic for band in live room

I am putting together a portable recording rig to record the band I do sound for during their performance. Mic placement would be back by the mixing desk. The recording is for the band to critique itself. REcording deck will either be either DAT, Minidisc or small DAW (not sure at this point).

any thoughts?

I record my sons band pratice every week and here is how I do it...

I use a matched pair of Marshall MXL603S's and X/Y them about 6ft in front of the drum kit and about 6ft high... this picks up the whole band very well.

the audio chain is...

MXL603S's - Symetrix 302 - DBX 1066 - Tascam CD-RW700.

This works great for recording live rehearsals, little club gig's and etc.
