Hi,
I need to purchase 2 mics.
One, a headset for playing Penny WHistle on stage (so I
can move and not have to stand perfectly still for hours)

#2 for recording a c.d.

I'm a newbie, please help

CD's make a sort of low whirring hum sound, very difficult to capture a clean recording. I'm going to say you want a small diaphram condenser for this. SM57 for the penny whistle.

Try the $30 Behringer ECM8000 for recording. Perfect choice for pennywhistle.

Why say you so, sir?:)

What about the MXL 603s?

What about a stereo recording using both?

Just wondering, 'cause someday I'm actually going to learn to play the one I have.

The 603 would be a good choice, too. It's more expensive. An omni works out pretty nicely for pennywhistles because the pennywhistle is actually a pretty loud instrument, and larger cardioid tend to have more peaky responses, compared to very small omnis. I wouldn't mic a pennywhistle in stereo unless the room was drop dead gorgeous sounding.

Thanks for the reply, Harvey. I just found another use for my $35 ECM 8000.:)
