So I'm looking for a multitrack recorder, between 8-16 tracks, so I can record my bands live sets in hopes of making a live CD. Any suggestions on what is the best Multitrack Recorder under 1000 bucks? Look forward to your response.

Hey berkleywoods
I recently bought the fostex vf16.It has 8 inputs and onboard fx{mostly reverb, some delays}.Its very portable.I really like the sound quality of the music that I've been recording lately.Because of my job I havent got to see what it can really do but I'm very impressed so far.
Do a search on this site and see if this is the machine for you.I got mine at Fullcompass for $969.00 about three weeks ago.

Ginzoo's recommendation of the VF-16 is perfect. You may have to spend a bit more than $1000 but it's the best piece of equipment out there in this price range right now. Also think about the Roland VS-1880.

MGS,
Did you buy a vf-16?I am looking for a couple of things that the manual does not cover.

Sorry Ginzoo, can't help you there. I don't own a VF-16, but I'm considering it. I'm basing my recommendation mostly on what I hear about it. Since you own one, maybe you can answer this: Do you need a special fibre-optic interface to dump your tracks to PC, can you mixdown in real time? These are questions that I need answered before I go ahead with a purchase.

Sorry, not really hip to all things digital.Thats why I am here. The vf-16 has 1/4inch in/out to fx,RCA outL/R,midi in/out,adat in/out and SCSI.Have'nt had time to mix any thing down yet but I will let you know when I do.
Hope that helps.
