Beta 52 or AKG D112? Used mostly live with limited recording.

While these 2 mics don't sound exactly the same, they are very similar. Kind of like the difference between Edy's vannilla ice cream and Breyers vanilla ice cream. I use them interchaingably and have no real preference. You will do fine with either.

What will the sennheiser e901 or e902 do for me over the Beta or the AKG?
I don't know. Most dedicated kick mics have a boost around 3k and are lacking in the lower mids. Under certain circumstances you can find one better than the others, but they are all trying to do the same thing. I would go with the shure. I think it is cheaper than the d112 and is one of the standard kick mics in the industry. It is also built like a tank.

I see no reason to wait for the Sennheiser. I have extensively used EV, Audix, Sennheiser, AKG, Beyer, Audio Technica, Shure etc... live and in the studio. For rock and roll I hate the sound of the RE20, the md421 and the AT 25's. When it comes down to the Audix D6, the AKG d112 or the Shure beta 52 or even the beta 91 I have absolutely no preference. They all sound good and still need some EQ, it's just a little differnt on each mic. The one thing I always do for rock though is use a beta 91 with whichever other mic is either on hand or I feel like putting out that night. The sennheiser 602 is also a nice mic, but can be hard to use on a loud stage since it has certain proximity problems when placed inside a kick drum. With good subs a gate will be a necessity with the 602 since the proximity problem seems to emit a constant 50 hz tone. Once gated though that tone can be a bonus instead of a problem.

There are a bunch of mics to use inside the kik drum!Depends on what you are looking for and the drum itself. For me on the kit in the studio the mic that works well for my uses is the Audix D6{I like them "scoopy"}..I throw the thing in there and I'm good to go LOL..Also use a Beta 52,421 I've even had luck with a 57..Main thing is make sure its tuned and sounds good first and foremost..Bla Bla Bla

realy there is no best mic there crapy ones though its all personal prefence so listen to some mics and make your choice
peace

Thanks guys, you have been a big help. I think I will pickup the 52. Seems like most people like that one.
