I need some ideas about some inexpensive monitors. I did a search about them and someone commented on some speakers that they had that were not really monitors per say but they were great for getting a recording that sounded great on anything. Monitors are the one thing that I just don't understand where these outlandish prices come from. They must be made out of gold. Just looking for something inexpensive that would do a decent job.

Yorkville YSM-1i -- very nice... very inexpensive...

I second that!

I just got the Yorkville powered monitors and they are amazing........ I'm very happy I saved the money and used it on pre-amps.......2 M-Audio DMP3.

The gospel truth has been given by the Bear of Blue and the others, and I'm also one of the others.

Have been using my Yorkvilles for over a year and they do a great job and, as mentioned, the "Price is Right." [Sorry Barker]

:D Are there better monitors? I'm sure, very sure. But, for the bucks and given sound quality--The Yorkville boxes are great.:p

You can go even cheaper with the Halfer M5 monitors at $99 each. If you need power for them they sell the amp w/ the speakers for less than $400.

The M5s are probably the best thing happening under $1k aside from the yorkvilles. The punch they pack is astonishing as they are probably the smallest monitor out there and use a 5 inch woofer. The clarity, balance and detail are great without anything being hyped, the bass might be slightly hyped and is more punchy and tight than smooth but you can actually hear tone in the bass as opposed to every other monitor. The only area they lack is in imaging as they dont have that wide soundstage that the events or KRKs have. I plan on picking up a pair as a second reference.

i like my yorkvilles I compared them to speakers thats cost approxmitatelly 10X more...sounded pretty close....the bass on the more expensive ones did sound "better"(like it can play lower frequencies more accurate) but i'm not sure cuz the amp wasn't strong enuff to power them to their full capacity so the distortion showed by my yorkvilles could of been too much power while the other weren't getting enuff

I'll throw in another vote on the M5. I'm half musician and half audiophile - my audiophile half was blown away at the full range and volumes these things kick out.... for $99 each!

I'm temped to replace some old Advents with these on my basement stereo :)

When thinking about monitors - getting a good full range is great. But you still need to take the mix to several different types of stereo systems (nice mid-priced system, cheap boom box, various car stereos, walkman, etc.) to get an idea what it sounds like in the real world.

My Yorkvilles came in today. Hooked them up and played around with stuff I've previously recorded/mixed. I'm already hearing stuff I missed before. Looking forward to remixing a few things in the next week or so.

BTW, they are currently hooked up to my Delta 1010 outs 1/2 via unbalanced 1/4" cable. Do I need balanced? Will I hear a difference. They sound great now.

Hey CHUCK,

My younger bro (down in Florida) just got his Yorkies today also....and he's real impressed with em.....and he paid almost $70 USD bucks less than I did up here in Toronto for my own set - and they are made right here in Ontario - go figure that one!!!!!

I plan on getting the YSM-1i also, hopefully after my birthday on the 4th (I'm only asking for $$$ :D), so hopefully I'll have saved up enough to get them.
