Any thoughts on which is the best hosting site for music? More from a presenting the music viewpoint than a promoting the band type viewpoint...

I see Soundlick... Soundcloud.... Reverbnation... LightningMP3....

Why would I choose one over the other?

Up until now I've just had files available for download from a private cloud site, but downloading can be a pita, so time to hook into a better solution.

I take it they're all better than poor old MySpace... :laughings:

Cheers

The thing with soundclick (only one I've used) is you have a max of 128 mp3s...more if you pay them (320?). Also, you get almost daily friend requests from random producers and rappers with like 7,798 freinds.

I'm pretty sure at least some of those others offer higher quality uploads. Soundclick is really easy though and you can add pictures and stuff but I guess it is kinda lame in some respects. I'm just too lazy to try something else.

I've recently started to enjoy listening to other people's stuff on soundcloud as the player seems pretty good as does the sound.

soundcloud is great but you are limited by amount of time not quality.....my favourite is dropbox, but its also for file sharing so its not got the great little player etc

soundclick and reverbnation are both 128kbps...Greg and Joey also use a 320 site but I cant remember its name or its restrictions???

I've never seen a forum that makes money. But I've never seen a badger either...

Seriously though just last night I was thinking about making a music hosting site.

Do it. I'm there.

Through the advertising though...don't they make money off this? If not, it must be pretty cheap. We should buy it!

The ad money can be good or it can suck. Usually the latter. It wouldn't be that hard to make really, I already have the domain and servers and most of the basic code written... I will sleep on it - maybe I will find out what people like/dislike about the existing sites like soundclick and soundcloud.

The 128 limit thats the mp3 quality right? or is that the number of songs you can upload?

PS: Rust Bucket is Da BOMB

Yes, the mp3 quality (kbs)

PS: thanks - I worked hard on that stupid one-chord tune.
