Best Guitar Under $400

If you can still find one, the Epiphone Limited Edition Firebird Studio is AWESOME!!!

I bought one based on the reviews I read and it's become my favorite axe lately.

Everything about it is top notch and the tone is killer!!

A total steal at only $399.

Anfontan got me interested in doing so (bless his GAS-E soul ;) )....and sometime this year, I am going to get a Fat Strat Saga kit. I was going to do it last fall...but ran into a Fotoflame Tele and a Jackson along the way :eek: ...now I have to start saving all over again....damn! :D

Hey True, the guitar tech site has a great walk-thru for all the steps you would need for a kit guitar. There are a few things I would add about handling the neck and body as you are finishing them and adding ferrules for string thru body is worth the extra trouble to get better sustain from one of these Tele kits, in my own opinion anyway! I think I have an old thread that had the specs and pictures of the steps for drilling and installing ferrules-if anyone would need the info I could look it up.

Anfontan - thanks again anfo, yea I think I have decided to go with the majority and replace the pickups / bridge. I think I am gonna get those GFS ones oto, I have read some good stuff about them and how can you go wrong for the price :)

danny - Hey Danny, thanks for the reply. Yea, well since my Godin has the same pickups (2 single coil and a humbucker), I think even more of a reason to get this thing cleaned up. Thanks!

hoops - yea hoops I think you are right. Not sure if it has lacquer or not, but what do you mena about making a frame around it? You mean to clean the nickel frets themselves or the wood?

Yes you do have a thread with those steps. I will need that info at some point this year....but may as well wait until the exact time to use it...with the rate my brain retains info, it will be mush in a week!! :D

And seriously Tony...thanks for stirring my interest in kits. I think I am going to love it...just need to STOP buying the ones already put together, so I can get started. I may have to send someone else to the music shop, to buy strings and such for me. ;) What is 'such' exactly? Oh noooooo....pedals and straps and amps and...and....and.... :eek:

Speaking of chimming in...that makes me think of percussion chimes...I don't have any of those yet....oh nooooooo. :D
 
my backup guitar is an ibanez artcore as-73. great semihollow for the money

I mean to clean the frets so you don't scratch the fret board.

depends on how old the lacquer. I have seen even painters tape take lacquer off of a fret board.
 
My choice for that kind of money would be a HAMER . They make an offshore version of the Studio model. Looks like a double cut Les Paul. Comes w/ Duncan Designed pups which sound excellent at any price. I A/B 'd one against LP's and PRS's and actually preferred the Hamer. New around $350 on ebay.
