Ronnie Montrose had the greatest sound on "montrose".Les Paul and a Marshall stack! Rock Candy,Good rockin tonight,Make it last,I dont want it. That was some killer tone.

Tony Iommi - Black Sabbath

Ty Tabor - King's X

Vernon Ried - Living Colour

Dimebag Darrel - Pantera

Most anything "Hendrix"

Steve Vai - "fire garden" c.d.

These are a FEW of my favorite guitar sounds.

Anyone know what gadget Steve Vai uses for that sound? Sabbath?? :D

Almost anything by:

David Gilmour - I specially like his live sound
Brian May
Andy Latimer
SRV
Santana (not because he's mexican, but...)
Mark Knopfler

Pretty much anything Andy Sneap produces - particularly Nevermore - Dead Heart In a Dead World. Awesome production. Great guitar sound. :)

George Harrison & John Lennon in Taxman

What about Paul McCartney? I understood that he played the solo in that piece and that the raga-ish bit in the middle was a kind of tip o' the hat to George. Or am I off base here?

Yeah. Nevermore does have some pretty damn heavy guitars.

Lets go thru the whole rock and roll era...
1950's Buddy Holly-anything he did had the classic Fender sound!!
1960's Jimi-Little Wing...All Along the Watchtower...you name it...
1970's Thin Lizzy and ZZ Top
1980's Stevie Ray...
1990's Metallica

The rythm tone of tool on Aenima
for lead i would have to say metallica, Reload... songs suck though...

guhlenn

Lindey Buckingham from Rumours. Esp "Never going back again" - (2 guitars) acoustic magic.

Okay, my 2 cents:

Peter Green on 'The Supernatural' from Mayall's Hard Road
Robben Ford on 'Don't let me be misunderstood'
Jeff Beck on 'Loose Cannon'
The Reverend Gibbons on 'Fool for your Stockings'
Brian May on 'Brighton Rock'

. . . but the winner is:

Ry Cooder on 'Paris, Texas' The whole damn thing!

foo

Stevie Ray..

I would almost suck d#*k for that tone...:D

Almost..

Joe Satriani - Surfing with the Alien

I don't know what he's using there, but the tone just rocks.

I vote for Bif Naked's "I Love myself Today"... I bought a alternative compilation cd, wih U2, Kravitz, Sum 41, Default... etc....

When the Bif Naked song comes on, it is so huge.. like the devil himself plucking the strings with his horns :D

FOO took t words right from my typing hand The Rev Willie G..fool for your stockings ...or anything by th MAN .

my favorite is john squire with the stone roses. gretsch country gentleman, fuzzface, some chorus i don't know, flanger, vox wah, fender twin, all that shit. he occasionally played a strat. and when they recorded the second album, he had switched to les pauls.
