Sorry, i know this isn;t the correct catagory, but this website has every catagory bar a software forum! but anyway, what is the best free mixing software? I've player around with audacity, but its a bit too simple with a pretty bad UI. I've heard of a programme with a name along the lines of AxeCut (this may not be it but it is similar), has anybody had any experiance with this? I need it to work with a usb/firewire mixer which i am yet to purchase.

Many Thanks, Liam

Its not free, but I don't think there's any dispute about this one :)...

Reaper

The trial lasts, well, as long as you want it to last, and you can buy a full license for $60 so long as your commercial income from using the software doesn't exceed $20k PA.

If you're into Linux then check out Ardour which is also very good.

Second Reaper. However as far as I know Reaper doesn't have a built in audio editor so perhaps combine with Audacity (mentioned above).

Ok, i'll take a look, thanks guys. The name of that software i was one about was trakAxPC and i've also had a look a Kristal which i quite like. How well does reaper work with USB mixers?

It should play nicely with any interface that has ASIO drivers.

This might be a better fit in the Computer and Soundcard forum, but no problem....

As for DAW selection, most interfaces will come with a lite version of a popular DAW app. And 'Lite' doesn't mean useless or temporary, they are limited compared to the full version, but still quite capable.... and they're FREE when you buy the interface. So, when shopping around for interfaces, keep this in mind and choose an interface that has DAW app packaged with it.

I have been quite happy with Cubase. It has a steep learning curve, but once you're over it, you can do a lot. Albeit, most DAW's will have a steep learning curve.

Welcome to the site.
