Best Effects

What company makes the most professional sounding plug-in effects??? I hear Waves are pretty good. Who else?
 
What's your budget? Anything from free (Klajerhaus, FishFilters) and good to amazing and reasonable (UAD) to pretty nice and pricey (Waves).

You're looking at anything from $0.00 to around $4,000 for a nice bundle.

Whoops - Missed the "Most Professional" part -

Anything at any price? I'd go UAD, then PowerCore.
 
For strictly non-TDM plugins. UAD and Powercore. PSP makes some decent stuff as well.
 
IMHO some of my favs are:

Crane Song Phoenix, Waves (mastering and restoration bundles), Spectra Foo, Sony Oxford, and Massenburg EQ for mastering. Tons of others for mixing.

The first questions are what DAW and platform are you using, and what do you want to do with the plug-in?
 
I use Sonar 3 producer edition for the pc. I know everybody says this but im just tryin to get "that sound" found in commercial cds. I record everything nice and clear but the plugin effects are what really polishes the mixes. I picked up a waves bundle a couple days ago and my stuff sounds better already!

There's an old expression "When you have a hammer everything looks like a nail". Similarly when budding engineers get a new piece of gear, or software, they tend to use it on everything.

Just be aware of what problem you are trying to fix, and use the correct tool(s) as well as being aware of what is left well enough alone. Before you add anything listen and decide on the goal. Learning how to achieve it is what takes time. More often than not, the best processing is none at all if everything was recorded well.

Best of luck on the new software, Waves is a good start.
