Depends on your definition of "manually"... ;)

I play my drums "live" with my keyboard, and then do a little tweaking in the Piano Roll...

Yeah, I conisider that "manually". I do almost the exact same thing, but I don't have a keyboard so I use my mouse to enter each hit in a piano roll.

That's right. You assign a sample to as many drum pads as you want and write a MIDI sequence in Sonar.

So it is essentially what I'm already doing w/ LiveSynth and Blue Jay soundfonts, except with the added flexability of being able to create and play my own samples if I choose. Given that, I'll stick w/ what I'm already doing. I'm not interested in giving up the time it would take to program my own things. All the drums from Sonic Implants already come with velocity samples and all that stuff pre-programmed, and they sound stellar.

I still don't understand how DR008 is different from the Cyclone DXI that ships w/ Sonar.

And lastly, I've gotten pretty darn good at programming realistic drum parts. I've tried many times to come to terms with loops, and I just agree The Seifer. I suppose they are good for dance music or something, but for songs that have any kind movement other than a simple droning beat they are very cumbersome and inflexable. Blecchh!!!

Slow down guys... You realy scared jakpetrov...

:D

BFD if you want acoustic drums. Same makers as DR-008. Check out the site. Everything you'd ever want in a "realistic" drum synth, which I thought you were looking for.

BFD. :D I think you can get it at musiciansfriend for $300. In stock too, last I checked. 9GB! So you won't be downloading it anytime soon. LOL!

I would suggest that you use.......

1. BATTERY by Native Instuments

2. Either..... Drumkit From Hell OR Purrrfect Drums

3. An MPD 16 pad by Akai

Peace...

I'm checking out Spectrasonics Stylus at present cuz I ain't got the time to mess with making drum patterns of my own.

http://www.spectrasonics.net/

It is really a sampler but has enough knobs to twiddle to classify it as a synth. It comes with 3Gig of wav files and drum loops. I also have the AKAI mpd16 drum pad on my shopping list just so I can tap along when I want and trigger my own drum sounds (soundfonts/wav files etc).;)

Battery looks pretty sweet. If I didn't already have DR008 I might go for battery. It looks like Battery can do everything DR008 can, and also a little more as far as shaping the sound of your samples right within the sampler. Cool.

I have Battery and it is a fine drum sampler. In conjunction with some ace drum samples and AKAI velocity sensitive drum pads, its a great way to make your own drum track. But even so, if you want a drum machine to work out of the box without messing about for ages, then Stylus is a good answer, and that was jakepetrov's original post requirement.;)

I program drums/synths/bass(sometimes) in reason then go rewire!

good times!

Just ordered BFD. Looks amazing.

Now, what to do until it arrives.....

??? Q.
