Is it is for a bass I would go witn a SansAmp.

scrubs said:Does the head already have a line out (not a speaker out, but a line out)? If so, you may not need a direct box. Also, I would recommend against solely recording directly from the head, especially for any type of distorted sound, as it will sound totally crappy. The amp/speaker interaction is very important to the overall sound. Now, if you're miking the cabinet and recording a direct line for possible reamping, that's ok.
If you must record direct, for noise or other reasons, just get a POD/vAMP type contraption. It won't sound as good as the real thing, but it will give you a lot of options for sounds.

Also, DO NOT run the amp's speaker connection to the DI box.
Consider the impedance converters from our good friend at Naiant:

How do they sound?

I have no experience with the products.
That's a great basis for a recommendation, I have to admit. The only better basis would be from someone who has ACTUALLY USED ONE.![]()
