Best deal for a large-diaphragm condenser microphone?

They are all the same, the prices aren't.
I'm not gonna spend nearly $900 bucks on a KSM32. They Shure cost $499 or somewhere around that in the US but I'm not so Shure on how high the import costs will be (heard they can get pretty ugly), even shipping costs will be like $50.
I'm just limited in my choice, can't you understand that?

Hmmm...I guess Ive heard that AT mics are hard to get in europe too...maybe you should list what brands are availible there and what arent...that I might be able to understand.
Seriously though...I think it sucks that you dont have the same choices that we take advantage of here.

Available brands and the prices of the products:
www.thomann.de
www.musicstore.com
www.oktava-shop.com

To quickly make a list of what is expensive and/or unavailable:
AT and Shure stuff is in relation to US way more expensive (almost double the price)
ADK, CAD, Nady and some other brands are unavailable here.

Arent online stores all the same throught the world...and why not Ebay?...there is nothing wrong with used.

Heres more reason why the KSM32 is the best deal.

Hey, very cool you used the YouTube link thingy. Nice song.

I see what you mean about the Shure, sounds great. I noticed he used it on the microwave, too!! :D

Right on...that guy is one of the hottest session players in LA...I wish I had half the chops he does...lol.

Funny thing...I could show everyone how to do the youtube deal...but the html code will cause it to go ahead and do the video window...so that makes it very hard to explain...lol.

This is the first forum where I see YouTube videos being embedded in posts...

Recorded with an MK-012. :P

Seen the KSM32 locally for $740 just now, can't find it for less yet.
Still doesn't look like an attractive deal here.

Okay, so basically the AT4040 and AT4033 go for about $500-$600.
Hows $220 for an Oktava MK-319 (MK-105 goes for $510) mod also available, but they are at like $600 too.?

I've got two MK-319s that I modded - I took off the plastic disk in front of the capsule, and and replaced the capacitor that attaches to the capsule with what I thought was a better one. I thought both improved quite a bit -- I've also got an Oktavamod MK-319, and it's much better still, but there you go.

I can do the headbasket strip and the HF disc removal, but nothing more I think.
The OktavaMods are madly expensive compared to the stock one. An MK-105 would be a cheaper option here.
So I'm still going back and forth between the cheap & cheerful stock MK-319, more expensive, different timbral qualities with the MK-105.

I want to know if a stock MK-319 is equally usable as a stock MK-012, because if so I'm sure I'll get one.

You'll *probably* like it after the mods you plan to do (I did the inner headbasket removal, too - forgot about that).

Prior to the mods, IMO, the MK-319 is *not* as useable as a stock 012, but they're pretty different mics.

The one I sent to Joly was a poor specimen - probably would have still been unusable after the DIY mods, but it came back very nice, btw, so even if you get one that should have flunked QA, there's still hope.

I hope I'll get a decent one.
Joly recommended the 319 to go along with the 012, because it's darker. A 105 on the other hand would have been equally if not more bright than the 012.
Anyways, the 319 was about $50 cheaper than the street price I seem to find on the internet (shockmount and shipping costs included for the local price).

I found myself searching and searching for a good mic to purchase, but once I got that MK-012 I didn't give a s*** anymore because I liked the thing so much. I'm feeling kind of confident this one won't be bad either. I also indeed went for the 319 because of it's mod potential.
If I am gonna send it off for modding, I'll send the 012 along with it.
I hope I get it before or during the weekend.
