What's the best color of lava lamp for a studio? I'm thinking about treating myself to a slightly late birthday present. :D

Red and Purple looked the best out of all the ones they had at Spencer's.

I think I've seen a thread like this before, but I'll gladly repeat myself: the only 'true' lavalamp is yellow and red :)

Mines blue and green... :D

I think this is the combo my ex-roomate had/has. Somehow, the thing transformed to clear liquid and white goo. Seriously. It was wierd.

One of mine is a blue base and cap with blue liquid and purple wax. The other is grey with greenish blue liquid and yellow wax. But the best ever, my old one which I cannot find ANYWHERE, was black with purple and pink. I miss it.

Yes, but it is called 'amber' liquid, not yellow.
I bought one of the originals off of ebay, a 'century' model.

Seriously...if you're going to do this, don't do it half way. One isn't going to cut it. It will look wrong and unbalanced. You'll be forever looking at your one lava lamp and wonder why it's not as cool as you thought it would be. I started with one and the karma was all hosed up. My ambience meter was stuck at 2.

You'll put it on the left of your work station...you'll put it on the right...then you'll try putting on a shelf right in the middle...it won't look right. Buy them in pairs, I've got red an blue markers, leds, meters on my Mackie MCU so I went with an accent and contrast color, I went with Green with Blue. I put them on the sides (stereo lava if you will), then, on top of each of of my speaker cabs, I put RED! The red is nice, not real bright but rather very soothing but still inspiring. The Green/Blue units are a bit brighter and actually catch your eye as they're a bit brighter. So place them carefully.

I'm glad that you're taking the time to do a little homework and not just going out to buy. This decision takes a lot more thought than people realize. The power of the lava lamp isn't harnessed easily but when you've got it...YOU'VE GOT IT!

It should look like lava!

Should look like lava when you are sober and off acid, or look like lava when you are on a bad acid trip?
