Ok, Im after a digital 8-track and have sort of narrowed it down to the Tascam DP-01 or the Boss Br something or other. Im from the UK and they charge extortionate prices for stuff over here. I have a friend who is in the US at the minute so I was going to order the 8-track online, get it delivered to him and he could bring it home for me.

Where would be the cheapest online store that would ship for free within the States? I've been on Musiciansfriend.com and it seems pretty reasonable. Has anyone any other recommendations?

Thanks very much for any help!!! It'll make a poor man very happy!!

I like musiciansfriend.com, and samedaymusic.com is another pretty good site. They ship the same day you order (or the next day if you order too late in the day). Both should do free ground shipping within the U.S. for an item that costs a few hundred bucks, like those recorders you mention. There's also sweetwater.com, but I rarely use them, so I can't offer much info.

Prices can vary greatly for individual items between stores. Sometimes the cheapest place for one thing will rape you on another. It pays to check out as many as you can. You, or your friend, can check out Froogle (http://froogle.google.com/froogle) which compiles info from multiple retailers.

For the DP-01 I found it for $369 US @:
http://store.yahoo.com/drumandguitar/dpdi8po.html
that's $30 less than musiciansfriend.com, but I cannot vouch for the reputation of this online store.

Here are some of my favorites:
www.musiciansfriend.com
www.zzsounds.com and www.samedaymusic.com (basically the same store with slightly different shipping policies)
www.americanmusical.com
www.audiogear.com
www.musiciansadvocate.com
www.music123.com
www.macmidimusic.com
www.sweetwater.com
www.fullcompass.com

and on and on... :)

Cheers Scrubs!!

So all I would need would be an adapter for the plug?

Hi,

Im from the Uk and i know its always slightly more than from the US, but i have always bought from the UK. The reason being, if it ever broke down, then you would have to send it back to the US to get it fixed, unless that manufacturer have a special internation purchase policy..

Sites i buy from are:

www.nusystems.co.uk
www.dolphinmusic.co.uk
www.dv247.com

These have seemed the best to me, and the customer service is good too. Just thought id let you know incase you didnt know about them.

Good luck!!

Peace

Thought i would be nice and do some shopping around for you, (and the fact i have nothing else better to do...)

Boss DP-01

www.nusystems.co.uk NA
www.dolphinmusic.co.uk £299.00
www.dv247.com £289.99

Boss BR something...

www.nusystems.co.uk NA
www.dolphinmusic.co.uk NA
www.dv247.com 10 track @ £629.99
16 track @ £895.99

So Unfortunately Nusystems didnt do very well with those 2 perticular items, but they are pretty good when they have the item you want. The Tascam isnt that much difference than the Dollars. But the Boss BR seems alot more..although i could only find a 10 track or 16 track, no 8 track im afraid. So there you go, hope thats some use to you..

Good luck!

google thomann, they are a shop in germany and they have greay prices, im in ireland and i use them all the time

Hey guys. Thanks again for the help, especially for looking up sites for me.

Vangore, Im in Ireland as well and have used thomanns for a load of stuff. They're pretty cheap but still not as cheap as US. But I think it might be worth my while just saving that extra couple of quid and buy it from the UK, just for peace of mind.

Thanks again.

hmm i thought thomann were pretty cheap, I gave you a rep point just for bein from ireland cus i havent seen anyone from ireland on here, I dont suppose your from cork are you?

Opposite end of Ireland! Im from Armagh. Yourself?

Not dismissing Thomanns though, my cousin used to own a music shop and thats were he told me to try as well. They're great for leads etc. and small things but the 8-tracks are'nt much cheaper. Thanks anyway!!

But, Ive decided Im going to get an 8-track from musiciansfriend.com....it's $299 and my mate can post it home. It should save about £100 overall.....hopefully it doesn't break though!!! (Its the Fostex MR8 by the way.....good enough choice?)

Yeah, you should be ok with Fostex. You might want to check with them see if they have a international repair policy of some sort? That way if it does break, you might be able to sort it out in Ireland.

Good luck!

Hey, Im not being patronising or anything, I'm being totally sincere....this is one of the most helpful forums Ive ever been on. People go out of their way to provide great advice and a helping hand. Thanks a lot.
