I'm looking for something to put on the Christmas list.

Any suggestions?

I'm intrigued with this little Line 6 Spider II 15. It seems to be very flexible. Also here.

If I just had $150, I would try to find a used Peavey Bandit or Studio pro (transtube series). These are great amps! I have a "studio pro"...a smaller version of the bandit (they go for around $300 new...should be able to pick up a used one for $150). I have a Fender Hot Rod Deville too...I like BOTH amps equaly...just 2 different animals.
You can't beat a peavey transtube amp for "bang for the buck" IMO.

Hey, jimi.

Thanks for the input. What kind of guitar do you play? I can't get my Carvin to sound right with a Fender amp. I think the pickups are just too hot.

And back in the day (I don't know if I like them showing my age!) Peavey was the Behringer of the guitar store.

I'll keep those selections in mind, though.

FWIW, I've got a Digitech RP50 Modeling Processor to spice up a good clean amp, too.

I play a '66 fender strat. The new line of Peavey transtube amps are good, alot of the older peavey amps were built like a tank, but didn't sound that good. I like the new ones, they are built like a tank and sound good too.

yea, I would go used and get more bang for the buck. I recently saw a peavy heritage for one fifty. It was a hybrid one hundred watter with two twelves and she sounded pretty damn good, at least the one I owned.

I'll have to keep used in mind. I'm not as spry as I used to be, so I'd really like something I can carry around without a lot of trouble.

I know how ya feel, I'm lugging a 68 super reverb around with me now, but it does have castors. I used a V4 with two 4x12 cabs when I was a kid, big Johnny Winter fan, I don't know how I moved all that shit all the time.

the line 6 spider II

my vote is for the line 6 spider II 15 watt
i have a 30 (big brother) have not had a problem with mine.
it does do all kinds of sounds and is easy to program (unlike other amps in line 6 product line up) i have never liked peavey the sound has never worked well for more than garage band sound if you ask me. i like the sound of line 6 amps for the most part although some have been hard to work with.
we get bands that ONLY use them in the summer where i work as a stage hand
Yamaha amps are nice if you can get an 80's one they have a good tone. not much drive though. check out a VOX pathfinder they are good amps (guitar center sells them for $119) stack up all the amps in price range get a guitar like what you will be playing and just run each one out till you find that "tone"
good luck.

Thanks, junkie.

I'd have to bring my Carvin, 'cuz they ain't got one at GC! :D

And then I'd end up spending on hour with the Spider twidlin' knobs...
