Bergstrad snare sound

Ok, so we have been trying to figure out how Danial Bergstrand (the engineer responsible for newer In Flames records, Soilwork's last record, and more) gets the snare sound he does. As with most metal of that sort, there is lost of sound replacing and triggering going on, but there seems to be more than just that going on. I almost sounds like...well I don't know. If you haven't heard it I don't know how to explain it. If you have heard it and have any ideas on how to produce it post it up. Cheers.

Well, I heard some of In Flames last record....something
"Clarity" (eh...I didn't care for it myself.)

What specifially are you looking for?

I mean, it sounds like a generic sampled snare - probably an 8"x14" that's tuned somewhat low, with a lot of the mid's cut, and the low end was boosted. There's probably a decent amount of compression on it. I couldn't really tell if there was reverb or not - it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to use it because that music is so" busy" that it would just kind of muck up the mix.

All I could find on the web, was that he recorded the original Drumkit from Hell samples (on snare, at least), so maybe check out that program.

I thought it was the guy from Meshuggah that did the drumkit from hell?

There is usually tons of reverb on the snare on Bergatrand produced records. Seriously tons. The sound on Come Clarity is not as extreme as some records he has recorded. To me it almost sounds like a drum with the snares clicked off blended with a sample. It is definitely a unique sound.

It was.

Did he work on Colony?

That has a song on it called "Manmade God" (only on the import version) that is one of my favorite songs (no vocals hehehe). I love a lot of their music, but I hate the vocals. A local guitarist tried to turn me onto them, but I like those soaring/operatic-styled lead vocals of bands like Lost Horizon.

The snare was played by Meshuga guy, recorded by Bergstrad, unless I mis-read.
