Hi,

I have a Xenyx 1204USB mixer that im not 100% sure how to properly set up. I have it set up now somewhat. It is recognized by windows, and I can record in audacity (sorta). The problem im having is,w hen I use a microphone, it echoes and I cant figure out why. Another thing I would like to do is be able to pipe music on my computer through it and be able to hear said music on headphones while a mic is on.

I appreciate any help.

Do you have your speakers turned on at the time? It's better to monitor on headphones so as to avoid feedback.

If you select the xenyx as your windows sound device, you should be able to hear system sounds, music, daws etc through the headphones and main outputs.

happens when speakers are both on and off. When I have the mic bus on solo, the mic sounds fine in my headphones, but still records wqith a heavy echo.

Hmm. That's the opposite of what I expected.
Just to be clear, the echo is on the recording? You could send me an mp3 and I'd hear it too?

It's common to hear an echo whilst recording, but not on playback.

the echo is on the recording and in headphones when solo isnt on..... when solo is on it sounds fine in my headphones, but is echoey on recording. I will send you a mp3 ina couple minutes

Try turning the replay volume to zero.

Audacity is fine for what it is but for home recording Reaper is better choice. Then, had we been asked, we would have advised you to get an Audio Interface not a usb mixer.

Dave.

OK, cool.
You hit the solo button in your DAW and live monitor, or playback a recording, and there is no echo?

Good. That rules out the mixer then.
Stupid question....Do you have any effects enabled in your DAW?
