I just got a Behringer Ultra-Dyne Pro with the idea of comressing vocals and guitar during tracking. However, now that I have opened it, I am confused as to what this machine is for. It seems that is might be more for mastering rather than tracking. There is 1 pair of inputs and outputs for left and right. I just want to compress 1 or 2 channels at a time through my Mackie 1202 inserts. With this I am forced to compress everything coming out of the Main outs on the Mackie.
The manual says you can compress during recording, but it gives you no idea as to what signal path to take. The manual kind of sucks, actually.

Any ideas? I am wondering if I bought the wrong piece of gear.

Confused and a bit frustrated,

use the inserts on the mackie. When you hook up a stereo to dual mono splitter to the mackie inserts one will be the send and the other the return. That will patch the compressor pre fader/eq and should work.
