Who said Behringer sucks? :D

I don't have a lot of experience with their products, but I was lucky enough to receive 2 of their mics as a gift and I'm really happy with the sound.

Below is a sample of these mics on an acoustic guitar that I recorded last night.

The mic is the Behringer ECM8000.

Try to listen to the 256K sample if you can. But I also provided a 128K streaming sample if you don't want to wait for the download. But the low quality kind of defeats the purpose of this.

Let me know what you think. :)

256KBPS (1.5 MB) · Streaming (128KBPS)

Forgot to mention: The tune is something I picked up from Audio Technica's website. Didn't spend a lot of time learning it though. You can hear theirs here.

Edit: Playing is sloppy because I'm tired and my guitar sounds kind of like shit for this kind of playing. I'll try to get a better sample up later today if anyone is interested. I also have 2 tunes in my SoundClick recorded with this mic if you want to hear a different sample.

Sounds good Danny! I just got some of their C-2's in today, hopefully they work out as good.

How has the emu been working?

Thanks pikingrin. The EMU works and sounds great. Huge step up from the SoundBlaster I was using before. I also like it better than the 2496 so I took the 2496 out and put the EMU in.

the ecm800 is supposed to be a decent mic, it's for reference really, but alot of people use them for drum overheads, acoustics etc.

hey, if it works, why not.

sounds great dude. what kind of acoustic is that? i really like the sound, nice and bright and crisp.

Thanks.

The guitar is a Cort acoustic. :o First guitar I ever got and have been playing it for about 5 years. Sounds okay with a fresh set of strings on it.

im baffled!

that guitar SOUNDS great man, wow.. does it play like ..eh though or something? you seem to be a little weary of it.

i only asked becuase i just ordered a Martin 000X1 and i was curious to see what gave you that nice sound. i have a feeling the martin is gonna be too dark, i didnt play it enough, and never recorded it, but we shall see.

Yea it's good for fingerstyle stuff but I'm not too crazy about the sound for playing rhythm/chords. I've been wanting to get a new one for awhile now. It doesn't compare to any of the higher end guitars like Martin or Taylor. :(

A dark sounding acoustic isn't a bad thing when it comes to recording, imo.

I´m really impressed about this Behringer.
Your system (mic/pré/converter) isn´t expensive and you have very good results . Clean and punchy (I blame the guitarrist too... :D )
EMU rocks ( why did you used the 2496 on recordings you sent last week on mp3 clinic)?

Wanted to test out the 2496. I like the EMU better, but don't notice any difference in sound quality between the two.

I don't think gear is even half the picture. If the instrument sounds good and your gear is at least decent you'll get a good recording.

If I were playing a Martin or Taylor it would sound a million times better.

That reference mic works nicely with the sound of your guitar. That's a combo worth remembering. There's no shame in playing an inexpensive instrument if you can make is sound like that!

Nice

Thanks punkin :D

I think the reference mic works good on acoustic instruments. It does a good job at picking up all the details. Especially when using a stereo setup like I did in this example.

Comparing this to my old recordings, it sounds a lot better. Recording in a dead/isolated area really helps. Otherwise, it sounds like ass.

Any kind of room treatment makes a huge difference.

Did you get one of the ones that have the composite back and sides? They usually do have a much warmer/darker sound to them IMO.

IMO the best budget acoustic I have played has been the Alvarez. RD-20S.
With a set of D'addario light phosphor bronzes on it, it sounds nice and bright and full. The only thing that absolutely has to go on it is the tuners. This was my first acoustic that I bought and I refuse to sell it because I am going to throw some new tuners on it and keep it for recording. Once I get my new rig set up ( moving into a new house soon ) I will throw up a sample of its sound for you.

As for the Berry clip. That really does sound nice and clean. Very bright sound which sounds GREAT. If it works for you, don't change a thing.
