Also, has anyone had any experience with Carvin SL 8 bus boards? How are the preamps?

How is the Behringer MX8000 compared to the newer 3282 or MX9000. I've heard it is much better, but wanted to get opinions.

I had one for 5 years. I liked it and made hundreds of great recordings. This is one of Behringer's best boards. I outgrew it and got an A@H large format. I had the Mackie and MX8000 (same models) and the Behringer was faultless. The Mackie was a good board except for the cheesy ribbon cables that would fail. All in all, the MX8000 is a real workhorse that is comparable in sound to the Mackie 8-bus. This board will not hold you back at all.

ergh

i got a used mx8000 a few years ago and it was working great for me until a little while ago. now i am getting random clicks and pops on some channels. it's not a huge deal and it doesn't happen all the time, but i can tell that it's starting to go.

to get around the problem, i decided to get another mx8000 and link them together. bad decision on my part. i got it off of ebay and it was garbage. certain buttons wouldn't stay depressed, and sometimes the main LR bus would just cut out for a few seconds at a time.

i got each of them for about $500 w/ the meterbridge so i can't really complain. that's less than one used mackie 24x8.

i haven't ever really used a mackie so i can't compare, but my original board held up for quite some time, especially after buying it used from a dirty punk rock club.
