I currently have two Motu 2408's and the Behringer MX3282 and I would like to record using 16 tracks at the same time. Is this possible with the MX3282 and the 2408's ? I know that I can use the inserts on each channel but then I loose the use of the fader and eq. Is there something that i'm missing or is there a mixer that would allow me to use all 16 channels without the loss of the eq and faders ?

Well, I'm not familiar with the mixer as such, but doesn't it have direct outs? I would be highly surprised if it didn't, unless it's made for PA applications, but even so..
If not, well use the inserts, it's a bit uncomfy but what the heck. Or get a new, better mixer! A Soundcraft Spirit 24 chan. for example. I saw one o'them for as little as 600$ today (used, in sweden that is :).. However, I shouldn't think the price would varry that much internationally. It would beat the Berry's pres and eq by quite alot.

your other choice would be the mx3242 which does have direct outs. its also about 100 cheaper than the mx3282...check that one out

Is there a way to do this without buying more equipment ?

Yes .... You already have the mixer, it has 24 pre amps on it plus the 24 inserts (and by looking at the spec sheet, looks like you have individual group out also). You should be able to utilize the inserts with a modified cable or possibly even just the half click method. You may even be able to come out off of the group out for each channel. Without knowing about your mixers routing capabilities, I wouldn't be able to give you a definite answer on the method you should use, but I would have to say "You got everything you need right there". I'm having a little trouble reading the block diagram for that mixer, but by the looks of it .... I would say you could run 1/4" cables from the group outs of the 24 channels (or 16 that you need) straight to the line level inputs on your cards.
