Metal dude
I looked in the owners manually and couldent find my answer(unless i skipped over it )
Are the channel inserts pre or post the eq??????????????????

mods

Are they the same mods I am talking about? if not do you know what i mean.

What exacty is the diff if you have pre or post. what does each do?

thanks

Yes, they are the same mods.

If you have pre inserts, this means what ever outboard gear you have plugged in the insert is pre eq. So if you use direct out on your board, the insert has no eq on it. If it is post, you do have eq on the signal. I think this is what you are asking.

So what you are saying is all the guitars etc (outboard gear)is pre eq. or you mean something else by outbard gear?

Okay, inserts are for connecting outboard gear like compressors, gates, limiters, mostly, however you can connect fx etc. Not guitars. You use the inputs for that. I thought you were talking about inserts not inputs.

The post/pre mod I was talking about is on the inst. in's. Like the mic line and stuff. but do youk know the diffs?

thsnks

OOOPS!!

Ok. the 802a. The aux sends, they are either pre/or post. Not the what ever like i thought. but still what is the diff?

They are now Post. what does that do compared to haveing them pre?

There is also 2 knobs on each cannel for aux. one says pre one says post. Any clues as to what they are?

Dont mind me I am half asleep today. Thaks for sticking with me boardman

simply put

pre- aux sends will send your signal prior to it hitting the boards EQ

post- aux sends will send the signal after it has run through the boards EQ

I'm trying to stick with you.

As pratt said, pre means pre eq and post means post eq. That's what I told you before. It's the same with inserts not with inputs. Inputs are inputs. That's where the signal from your instruments first hit the board. Inserts are for rack type gear that you may want to inject into the input signal. I thought inserts is what you were talking about to begin with. Maybe that's were I got lost. Anyway, this is very basic stuff, you might want to find a book on recording and read it. It sounds like you might just be getting into recording. There are a lot of books about recording and all the terms used. You can find a lot on the net also.

Anyway, good luck and keep on rockin

Peace

Boardman

Newbie... ME? how did you guess

Well you aer correct. I am a newbie. I checked out the net and got like a million different terms and their meaning. I will go and read those now.

One last question for now. on my INPUTS there is a nop for pre and post (behringer 802a). If I adgust them what will happen with each one. I know you proberbly think i should just plug some stuf in but i dont have anything to plug in yet, (just a guitar and my drums (yammaha dd55), and my mics. Just a basic thing thanks.

:) thanks :)

There souldn't be any pre or post on inputs. Phatom power, but that is gobal. Meaning either phatom power in on or off on all channels. Pre and post are normally on aux send/returns. I think you are looking at your board wrong. You have plenty to plug into your inputs. You can plug your mics, guitar and drums in the inputs direct. You don't need anything else. What do you think you need? You don't need amps, just take a guitar cord, plug it into your guitar and plug the other end into your board input #1 or which ever. What are you recording to? Or are you recording at all?

lets review this carefuly.

The stuff i was talking about pluging in is like compressors, reveb stuf like that. I know you dont need them but i read somewere on here that you especialy need compretion for recording to Tape.

Here is what i have:

Taskam Porta 01
802a
2x Stageworks mics
cables.
acustic drums
Yamaha DD 55
Elec. Guitar
Elec. Bass
getting Keys, Acustic Guitar.

Here is what I am talking about. Go to www.behringer.com click products then the 802a then when it loads click manual. Look for a pic of the mixer. at the bottom there is two knobs. noe is pre one is post. I think they are aux.

now what do you pulg in to aux. what hapens if you turn up or down pre knob.

what happens if you turn up or down post knob.

This is the first mixer I have ever looked at (in real life) never mind used. So I dont have a clue as to what some things are. I have read evry post on this place and i have learnt alot!!! but i have a few blanks here and there.

Thanks for helping me so far :)

I think if you are unclear of anything i said first let me clear that with you. then you will be able to help me your best

I believe those are the main aux send and return controls. The pre? Send sets the send level and the post? return sets the aux return level.

I saw the knobs but its hard to read the labels in those photos. I am referring to the knobs at the top of the meter area. If there is a pre/post switch by the meter it is to change the meter from monitoring the PREamps before they hit the fader or to POST monitor the signal after the fader. When you hook up a mic or instrument you first adjust the PRE level then you adjust the POST level accordingly.

MISTERQCUE

I don't believe anyone on this thread was talking about boards in general. Regardless of what you think about behringer, your statement doesn't help anyone. This thread could have been about any board. If you don't like behringer and you think they are a piece of shit, that's fine. I owned a mackie 1604 pro and got rid of it because I didn't like it and bought a behringer which puts the mackie to shame. Maybe that's why mackie has sued behringer twice and lost both times. Everyone has there own opinions about what is good and not. And you know what they say about opinions. There like assholes, everyone has one. So if you don't have any useful input on the subject which wasn't the brand on board this find another thread to talk your shit!!!!:D
