Behringer Mixer Effects Any Good?

I'm trying to decide wheter it's worth the extra money to get one of the Behringer mixers with effects -- the 1204FX and the 1622FX. Does anybody have any experience with these models? Are the effects any good? Also, other than the fact that they look cooler, is there any real advantage to having a mixer without faders/sliders (like the MX802A) to a mixer with faders? Thanks.

A. I like faders. Quick to move, easy to move groups at a time, easy to see where it is and get it back there.

B. A buddy of mine has one of those Behringer units - He asked me to check why the effects section was so noisy.

What I ended up doing was just re-staging it - Instead of having the master (FX level) at unity, I ended up having it set to around -15dB or so. Don't remember exactly, but somewhere around there.

Obviously, you have to drive the effects a little harder, but there's still plenty of headroom.

So, drive it hard, keep gain on it low. That's a noisy puppy in there. However, the effects sounded reasonably decent if I recall.

Yo RockFIsh:

Let your ears hear some Yamaha effects -- about the best out there.

They have "high-end" but they also have some reasonably priced FX outboard boxes.

Green Hornet:D

The consensus is that Yamahas small cheap mixers are better and not that much more expensive.

they are ok....i use them in church....not really at home...never tried it in an actual recording but i do hear from others that they are a little noisy...not too bad live....i'm quite sure it wont matter too much if your doing punk rock or something along that line

I have a UB1622FX-Pro...all in all, I'm rather happy with it and the effects not too bad...ever since going over to SONAR 3, I don't use the effects so much anymore though. Every once in awhile, I'll use it exclusively for something like an acoustic solo. Several years ago, I got it because the price was right and still think I got my money's worth.

Wish it had more subs though but hey...SONAR has that covered.

Good luck.

so i take it sonar 3 is worth the money spent (or the time downloading for some people)? I'm using sonar 2 xl and thinking about the upgrade

I don't know if 3.x is what you're looking for but, the FX in a mixer would not be the reason I would buy it. If it had some really great pre-amps built in...that would be different story. Like Mr. Massive indicated, some of the lower end multi-fucntional mixers take a lot of experimentation...find the sweet spot for effects levels vs. dry levels and that sort of thing...personnally, I got tired of the tinkering...record dry and clean when possible and add effects later.

Sonar 2.x has a lot to offer...if you're in the market for FX, I'd do some softare solutions research. Plug-ins bring a lot to the table...you're not one of those hardware hounds are you? You're addicted...aren't you...common...admit it.

Got gear?

:D

i wasnt a hardware hound until i bought a mixer....i was using the mobo's soundcard....then got the audiophile, and then got a pair of monitors...after that i bought a rack, power conditioner, compressor, reverb/delay(and some other freaky stuff)unit, headphone amp, DI rack unit and a boss GT-6. if they made that in rack form, i woulda gotten that....i have enough to do pretty much whatever i want....but its definitely like crack and I'm having cravings for more stuff

dude...say it with me...pay attention...focus on the quality of the performance...

recording,.. it is secondary...so all the non-enlightened ones may too one day enjoy the peace and harmonious product of the musician.

bottom line...many of the inspired folks found on this forum are eager...

hardware won't do it all...listen to some very old Dylan or Jopin, or Holiday tunes...their stuff was shot with less than what you've already got on hand. Listen to some quality first mix vintage stuff...try to get there...it's a good excersize and a lot harder to achieve than you think. Then pick another era or genre'...try to achive the sounds...practice...re-mixing old stuff is a great exersize.

hold off on the purchase until your're sure of what you need.

greets, cheer and happy stuff atcha

i researched everything before i got it....believe me i dont have the money to just run out and buy things
