behringer mdx4400

i got an mdx4400 compressor thinking how bad could it be- its got 4 channels ande only 100 bucks...but im trying it out and after my mics run through the compressor its not at the nominal level it should be at- even when i turn the output on the compressor all the way up it does make up all the gain i need for the level for it to be at

would going for an RNC be a better buy....if you guys have had experiences with any behringer compressors please help me out
 
What's your signal chain? It should go mic>pre-amp>compresser>recorder. If your are running the mic directly into the compresser into the recorder it's not going to work.
 
i had it going through a mixer and it still had signal loss
ill try again later thanks man
 
yeah youre so smart- i put it through a mackie and now its kick ass! as much volume as i want now
