I just purchased this mixer and was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could set it up to record with seperate tracks or do I need a different mixer?

I don't want to use sub groups and all that. I want each channel to send a seperate track to my computer.

ANYBODY! Please give me your suggestions. Thanks.

An important piece of informatin is how you intend to get separate tracks (assumig you get them out of the desk ok) into the computer. Does your interface have that capacity?

Assuming it does, there are a number of ways of capturing separate tracks.

1 You can use the channel inserts as direct outs. These ouputs, though, will bypass the EQ and channel faders, so you need to control lvels via your interface.

2 You can use the sub groups. By panning hard left and right on mixer inputchannels, the two subs and mains give you six discrete outputs. Aux1 and aux 2 sends give you another two.

Use the subgroups. Don't be scared. With that mixer that is the best way to do what you want to do.

First of all, for recording, using 4 Sub Groups ... that will give you 4 tracks.
What soundcard / audio interface are you using ?

You should have done some homework. A few bad reviews here ---> http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Effects/product/Behringer/SL2442FX+Pro/10/1

Might I suggest returning this and looking at the following with multi-track Integrated I/O for Recording. Every input can go to a track.

TASCAM US-1641 ($400US) http://www.tascam.com/products/us-1641.html
ALESIS MultiMix 16 Firewire http://www.alesis.com/multimix16firewire
ALESIS MultiMix 16 USB 2.0 http://www.alesis.com/multimix16usb20

I personally, will get this one soon ($375US) ALESIS MultiMix 16 USB 2.0 http://www.alesis.com/multimix8usb20

just read the review in sos on that alesis 16 usb 2.0 and it looks great.

they mentioned the lack of a high impedence guitar input but i suppose that could be easily got around ..

but surely the firewire version would be better than usb2.0 if say you were to also use the usb for midi as well as mouse control ect??

MIDI and Mouse don't send a lot of data

True, but the big thing with the Firewire Interface vs. USB (for me anyways) would be USB for MIDI/MOUSE/KEYBOARD/HARD DRIVE and Firewire for Audio.. just less stuff going on with my audio bus.

My 2 pence.... i mean cents..

Get the Firewire. USB 2.0 is too slow for multitrack audio.
