Behringer BCA-2000, Looks too good!

Hi all,

Have been spending the last few weeks looking at virtually every audio interface in the world around my budget of about £160. Started off with the Tascam US-122, then saw the Tascam US-224, then got excited about the Edirol UA-25. But i have just found the Behringer BCA-2000 that looks like it has everything, and i am getting very excited about it. I dont need it to be portable as i have a very basic home studio (want to record Guitar, Vocal & Keyboards).
Has anyone got any info on the BCA-2000?, i only have a small computer (Pentium 2, 350Mhz, 128meg ram, Windows 98SE) but i will probably only want to record tracks individually anyway (maybe 2 tops).
Please let me know what you think as it looks great!,

First, post only in one forum. Please.

Second, the BCA2000 is a USB 2.0 device and I would be quite surprised if your older machine was equipped with the faster USB ports.

Sorry to piss on your parade.

Yeah, i did notice the USB 2.0 connector mentioned, but i went on the internet and i found somewhere where it said that USB 2.0 was backward compatable and would connect to standard USB o.k.!!.
Was this info incorrect?
 
That's for the device, not the computer.

USB 2.0 is as fast as Firewire, and more and more devices are being manufactured to take advantage of this many-fold increase in data transmission speed.

And the BCA-2000 may not have drivers for Windows 98SE...

I would first concentrate on ditching the PII, and getting a faster computer. Windows 98SE sucks too.
 
hi i'm new here and also considering the BCA-2000. A local store is taking pre-orders.

But after downloading the manual, it seems that there is the following recording limitation - if ADAT is used, you cannot use any of the other inputs (i.e. can't use the analog line-in or SPDIF digital in). It doesn't seem to matter how many channels of ADAT you are using... once an ADAT connection is used, you can't record simultaneously using the other connections. I haven't been able to confirm this anywhere though.

If thats the case it seems that PCI based options like E-mu may be better as I would like to record simultaneously from a Behringer ADA8000 via ADAT AND via a favourite mic pre into the analog input.

Am waiting to clarify this before ordering the BCA2000.
