I'm not sure how y'all feel about Behringer products, but I am getting an amazing sound out of the B-1 condenser!

Feedback? Stories? Do ya hate it? It's a pretty inexpensive mic...

Oh my god.

I almost gasped myself into hyperventilation when I saw the words 'Behrninger B1' next to a thumbs up sign. Naturally, I had to read the post.

When I was looking for a good deal on a LDC, I began by rounding up a bunch of mics that my friends owned so that I could test them. One of the mics that I tested was the Behringer B1.

The B1 was a horrible mic from top to bottom; It had a disgustingly scooped midrange and some type of phasey-sounding distortion in the high end.

It sounded exactly like the GXL2200 from Global Audio (CAD), so if you can, i'd reccomend that you return the B1 and pick up a GXL2200. They can be had for $50.00, so you could get about $50.00 back and still have the same sound.

As for that awesome sound you're getting, i'd love to hear it. Could you could post a file somewhere? I tried it on vocals and acoustic guitar with a lot of experimentation and could not for the life of me get anything but garbage out of it. You must be using a magical pre. I was using the pres on Midiman's Omni I/O.

Anyway, congrats on getting a decent sound out of such a piece of trash.

Ouch. Glad its working for you Jimmy. Yours should be the most important opinion.

... yeah im gonna have to concur(spelling .. sorry). I have the B-2 and i really hate it on alot of the vocals I've done... But never minded some of the acustic sounds i got out of it.

We have a couple B2's they are cheap we paid 100.00 apeice{used} I think. I've used them on sratch vox, aoustic guit sometimes. They aren't great but sometimes they work..Hell what do you expect for this cheap LOL..Like most of the less expensive mics they will have a narrower scope of use to me, because of the excessive hype in their particular feq..Thats my opinion and Im sticking to it!LOL:)

that's my story and I'm...stickin to it!

You know, I read these posts about how crappy some of the gear out there is, and of course you get what you pay for. We all know that! As a lighting designer, I would MUCH rather design with Studio Spots and VL1000's than I would with Martin Mac Scans and Mac 1000's... You know?

I am a final year GRADUATE STUDENT, doing my thesis, and I can only afford what my checkbook will support.

I am a lighting designer (that's what I'm getting my masters in...
MFA Lighting Design from The Ohio State University, hoping to get into concert design) as well as a sound designer/composer/musician/badly-addicted-to-the-whole-recording-scene kind of cat.

I have some really crappy gear:
Behringer MX802A 8 channel mixer
Superlux CH-8A Large Dia. Condenser
Behringer B-1 Condenser

I also have some pretty sweet gear:
Fender Delux Tele (my new baby...)
Takamine G-Series solid top
and my smokin' 1.8G RAM P4 machine that I run Cool Edit from...

I do a lot of work in Theatre (you know, since I design mostly for THEATRE) and my crappy gear gets done for me the job that I need it to do.

WOW! That's a lotta info that I'm sure none of you wanted to know about someone you never met, huh! I just want to get into this home recording thing so that I get more gigs as a designer who can write, engineer, and produce his own music for shows...

THAT'S ALL! Have a great day!

Success Story!

The only microphone I have is a Behringer B-1 and I love it!
The other day I was eating a bowl of cereal and I noticed a cat sniffing around curiosly in the flower beds around my back yard. The cat looked at me sitting near the window in my boxers, and I cracked a grin "cute little cat" I thought to myself as I was eating my Golden Grahms (tm).
My smile slowly and steadily turned into a frown as the cat, with a screw you smile (I think it was a smile?), squated and proceeded to take a poo on the nice flowers my Dad had planted.
I quickly got up! There was my trusty Behringer b-1! I unhooked it from the cable and with all the strength I could muster, I hucked it at the poo poo cat hitting it broadside as it was squeezing out a green bean. The cat screamed like a little girl and leaped into the neighbors yard and I haven't seen it since.
Thank you Behringer B-1! I could'nt be happier with your product.
Seriously folks I really have to get a better mic!

big sigh...

I'm selling my B-1.
Enough said. It hasn't worked out for me.

What happened? I thought you liked it. Make up your mind. :D

I DID!

I made up my mind when I sold the damn thing!

Thanks for your concern, however :)

the B-2 is just a rebadged rode nt2, I would imagine the B1 to be an NT1 with a new case.

The thing about the B2 is for sure.

you could have had the SP B1 for 20 bucks less, and its a far better mic.

Yea, but after your first post where you glowed over it so much . . . I figured they must be great mics, so I went out and bought 20 of them! Now it looks like I'm stuck with 20 door stops. Thanks a lot!

chess...I'll trade you a Lexicon reverb unit for those mics you call doorstops...

say yes...and the deal is done.

Aren't they too light and round to be door stops?

Maybe plumbs?
