Beginner: Fostex to computer

I have searched the files here and am still such a beginner as to be confused by the lingo. I have a Fostex vf-08 and need to get the recordings to my computer. The sound card is just an on board deal. I have Cakewalk/Homestudio as software. What do I need in the way of a sound card, cables etc? Thanks for being patient ... V

The audiophile 2496 seems to be popular. You can transfer 2 tracks at a time with it. There are others that have 4 and 8 inputs. You need optical cables.
Note: They come in different sizes. This is 6ft.

Beware, the VF08 has coaxial SPDIF connections not optical. You'll need a converter to connect it to somthing with only optical SPDIF connections.

The Pdf file I have on it shows that its Optical. It may be a Typo on their part. Check the Manual or the unit to make sure. If its not the optical type then you will need the Rca type.

As PeteHalo pointed out make sure your soundcard is Capable of the same Spdif format as the fostex. That being either Rca or Optical.

It might have been that it was the VF80 and not VF08 that had the coaxial SPDIF. I've never seen either one of them but I remember talking about this when someone asked how to connect one of them to VF16 which have the optical connection. Better check that out though before you buy.
