I've been recently considering setting up a mini home recording studio for casual use, and for fine tuning my musical skills than anything else really. I've decided on these mics as potential candidates: Studio projects C1, B1, SE Electronics SE2200a, At2035/2020. Which of these mics would you guys go with, they would be used mainly for guitars and vocals. The C1 and Se2200a are the same price here for $250, which is preferable? Also, are they that much of a step up from a $120 B1?

If these are your only choices I would go for the Se2200a. HERE is one for $199.!

Yes .

I live in Vancouver, so shipping may be quite costly, if at all available. Oops, spelled beginner wrong.

Put your location in your bio!

No ..... that's how everyone in Canada spells beginner. Your all set. :D

Haha I wouldn't know, I haven't been in Canada long enough to assimilate their way of spelling, so I guess the stupidity is all mine. Anyways, seeing as they are 299 here, what would you recommendations be?

The AT wouldn't be a bad choice either - what is your price? Have you looked into an Oktava MK319?

As much as the C1's price, so 250 i guess. No i havent tried the Oktava they are not sold in stores here, at least not that I know of.

I was a Canadian beginenr once--born on Vancouver Island and then lived in Alberta before moving to London then Australia.

I guess you know my thoughts since I think I was the one who recommended the 2200A. I own several of your shortlist and would go for the 2200A which is now my go to mic for a wide variety of stuff, often in preference to my beloved TLM104. I voted with my feet and now own three of them.

(Just to throw in a spanner, what's your price on the new sE X1? I was invited to audition it at my local supplier last Friday and was very impressed--haven't used one in anger yet but I'm tempted next time I'm not flat broke.)

The TLM104 is the quietest mic I have never heard. (of)

Oooops....fat fingers and a tiny netbook keyboard are a bad combination. That was a 103 of course....

what will you be using this mic for?

My favorite mic so far is the TLM 102, which i've had way better results with that than the TLM 103 and its a lot cheaper.

However.. both (bolth) are outside your price range.

so what will you be using this mic for? voice? acoustic guitar? Room mic for a kit? thats pretty standard single LDC applications.
