Hey, check out the noob posting up his first tune in the clinic :D

Great to hear something new from you Keith.

Managed a quick listen before leaving for work this morning. Sounding really good to me man. Love the dark motoring groove - the low arpeggiated synth and some of the leads in particular. I'll listen again later when I'm back home (actually looking down the clinic page, there's a lot of stuff to listen to when I'm back home), but the only thing that seemed to stick out initially was that the beat was a bit thin sounding. If you could beef up the body of it a touch, I think it'd be done.

Jesus...KC!!

Good to see you man. I swear you've moved more times since you joined this forum than I have in my entire life.

This sounds good so far as I can tell. It seems maybe less layered and more straightforward than what I remember of your prior tunes, but still very well put together. My son liked it when he heard it earlier this evening.

I actually really like the type of verb you used on the sample, but I just think it was applied a little too heavily. Try dialing it back a hair and see what that does for you.

Pete Im tired...its fun moving around but years of it are tiring me out...im back in SD via the UK in a month...then Philly before the years done, then Im finished. Been here 9 months already...everydays in the 90's, hot, crazy city, mad driving...and Im driving a volvo S80 in a place that has cars the size of tennis shoes...Ive crashed it twice already lol

Thanks for the listen...bit of a new direction for the next album...five tracks in :)

Ill fuck about with that vocal

Keith! Yo, man.. This sounds great. Listening to it through my Grados, it seems a (hair) bit bright generally, but other than that, it's super tight. I love your stuff. Listened to the whole thing and wanted more. :)

Happy trails, and congratulations on your new daughter!

Jas...cant believe it...its like the old gangs here

Great you listened...yeah bright, old cloth ears fight brightness everytime...i remember the album coming back from mastering and I was lime "wheres the hi frequencies!!!" Lol

Ill dial it back in the final

I quoted a track I made alongside this...if you get a chance give it a spin, might be more to your taste??

Rob is an anagram of bro

Thanks for listening mate...yeah the beat isnt driving it...the bass is...more disco than modern dance.

Im getting heavily influenced by boney m, abba, and the dead kennedys :D

My pleasure. You're going to wind up in Philly after all that...?

LOL...The S80 is actually pretty small (in the States). At least you didn't have one of those old 240 wagons. I drove one for like 10 years and they're friggin' huge.

Hope you stick around for a while.

Pretty darn groovy man. Disco on the dance floor dawg. Congrats on your baby. How do you like the VRM box?

Cheers Phil

I might get slated but I love it, I love gimmicks anyway...but one or two of the emulations have made me forget I have cans on and have me reaching for the volume control.

I wouldnt mix on it, not sure youre meant to...but I enjoy tracking with it as it has my monitors in there...its also great for mix referencing and using as a grot box. My headphones were also matched with it so maybe that helps.

Theres some software I tried thats as good...but I can use this as a headphone amp/audio interface and that helps drive my cans which are 250ohms when Im "on the road". I have focusrites liquidmix too, I like this technology.

An S80 is like the titanic here, and every other car is a swerving iceberg driven by a short brown lunatic...multi story carparks are the most hair raising thing Ive driven in...most cars are smaller than a mini in KL! Traffic light observation is optional, which side of the road you drive on is optional, hard shoulders, speed limits, no right turn etc etc...optional

Yeah living in some of the best cities in the world and we're going to wind up in Philly lol. Its going to be for a few years but our long term plans are So Cal. Fingers crossed.

nice! congrats on your daughter. Mine is yelling at me to turn your song down. Sounds great on my system. Where in SE Asia?

Damn I had a long ass post typed out and lost it. Good, it sucked anyway.

Basically, alls I said was it's awesome. If I had to nitpick something, I'd want a fatter bass line. Just a little. And I really love the false ending and the slightly different snare hits on the 2 and the 4. Nice humanizing. :D

Yay you listened to the second tune....Ill layer an analogue bass into it when I get my shit out of storage. And you noticed the snare. Thanks Greg. Didnt want to post two threads with two songs. Seems like I can get nearly there with headphones. :)

Im in Kuala Lumpur just now...its an amazing city, but Im looking forward to getting back to the west.

I never thought having a daughter would mean so much...cant believe I find someone more important than football and beer...nearly ;)

Thanks for the listen.

Shit sorry. Lol. Usually when I'm late to a mix thread I'll skim through and look for the newest links.

No man, thats great...i didnt know what one to stick up so I snuck that one in...I mixed them at the same time...my first mixes with cans

Ive got a third but Ive lost the magic and the mix sounds like complete shit lol

Well if you've got a new daughter, the equipment can't be all that limited, is all I'm going to say...:D

Look, I like it but very early on (it's Friday afternoon at work, been a long week) I imagined the Popcorn theme running across the first section... and once that happened I couldn't get it out of my head... so I'm going to have to put it aside now and come back to it once I've removed that little mindworm from my head. But from reading all the other comments it doesn't look like I'm going to have anything much to say anyway... so I'll just come back for a listen again later.

See you soon..

Do do do do, do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do..... aaaaargh...

Someone will do a youtube mashup with me and Hot Butter, stardom and 15,000 soundcloud followers will come forth!! :D

Modern dance is crap anyway from what I've heard so you're better off keeping it retro/futurist/whatever the hell the description is. Made me think more of FSOL, early autechre etc than disco to be honest.

Ah, didn't know you were in Kuala Lumpur. Man from what I've seen of those SE Asian megacities, they're good fun for short periods of time, but too exhausting to settle in long term. They're a complete assault on the senses and it always surprises me that what little semblence of order there is manages to survive the constant onslaught of chaos :D

Dude your description sums it up...ive been coming here for over a decade but the longest at one time was two months...its nucking futs. The people are lovely until they get behind the wheel, then theyre c*nts lol.

Im enjoying sone of the new tunes Ive been making...mostly centered around the virus TI but Ill flesh them out with other flavours laters :)

The mix is a headphone mix with a vrm box... :)
I've been wondering about those. I'm a BIG fan of headphones with a decent collection of good ones and even an audiophile Headroom headphone amp.
I use cans for some mixing but I mostly use them for listening to vinyl for pure enjoyment listening.

Do I want a VRM? They're not that expensive.

As a reference tool, maybe

I bought it because I was sick of not being able to reference a tune while I was away

There loads of people love it, and loads dont. It mostly depends on

. Type of headphones used
. Size of your head
. Which emulation models you use

All I know is a commercial release sounds good on every emulation, therefore if you can get close to that then youre in the ball park.

Also its amazing how few pro headphones have a flat response....so I checked out this Learning Center - Build a Headphone Graph | HeadRoom Audio and then EQ'd the problems out on the master channel. Just remember to disable it on the final bounce.

Ive only referenced and mixed two tracks like this, but I reckon with more practise my results will be better than monitors in an untreated room.
