i always hated the hack stereo, i can't listen to it. hearing the mono for the first time, they are so superior, they are punchy as hell and you can hear the work done and they are so much wider sounding, very full and the compression stands out in places, maybe if you have a great stereo system you can deal with the hack stereo cuts, but i can't get enuf of the mono tracks, i suddenly realize what all the fuss was about, now i can appreciate the early Beatles, that music will live forever.

powerfull and more energy and punch than anything else i've ever heard, punchy punchy punch  :D y

I love everything about the Beatles. I figure that during the period of time when stereo was just coming to be, mono production was much more sophisticated (translated: expressive and rich sounding)... since it was what the engineers knew well. I'm all for minimalism. Who really needs two tracks anyway? Not me.

i think, if i remember correctly, reading George Martin or maybe Geoff Emeric saying that since they weren't considering using the L/R separation, they had to rely on separation using the EQ spectrum, compression, and tonality instead. And i think that one single fact makes these things really interesting even today, or especially today.

until listening to these, i had no idea how much compression was employed back then!!

i'm so drawn to this mono sound at the moment, i can't stop - reminds me of one single canvas where the colors have no choice but to be on it, together, so they better make sense.

BTW, when did this dichotomy end? when did they accept stereo and have LP's released consistently everywhere?

with what release?
