Hey everyone.

I know that recording a Beatles Cover is a tricky thing to do, because they will always be better no matter how hard you try, lol. But I love them so much that I just dont care.

Anyway, I made a version of "With A Little Help From My Friends" because Ringo's voice is similar to mine in terms of range. And I think he is a genius drummer.

I recorded the drums with 3 mics at a studio downtown (I used my own mics because I want to force myself to get good results with few things) and the rest I did all in my bedroom.

So another detail is...I want this kind of stuff to be in my portfolio to record more local bands, as they are recording with people that I think make things sound boring and souless (only radio-ready mixes).

Do you think this mix sound cool enough to be shared in facebook, blog or anything to promote myself?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF7G2DdF9Fg (oh and I made a video because I think it looks cooler...)

Really good job. Good playing and singing. Mix sounds clear. Your voice does sound like Ringo's. I would definitely share it.

Nice, everything seemed to be very well performed and mixed.

Snare doesn't turn me on. Maybe too much at the top? I wouldn't change it, just listen and see if you agree. Maybe others will weigh in.

Nice work.

The vocals seem a little rough to me, maybe changing keys or using some pitch correction might alleviate that a bit? Always hard to criticize a cover because it's meant to sound like the existing song for better or worse! The bass sticks out a little bit for me though I'm not sure why, the tone sounds fine but maybe it's just kind of thin? The mix sounds great to me in general, levels are nice and it sounds like the original song.

I think overall it sounds good.
But check that chord at the "need anybody" part.
It sounds like you play a minor chord there.
I think it's a F#7.

Overall this sounds pretty good. I think you have a good raw performance. The mix is pretty good as well. great job.

Hey guys, thank you all for the feedback.

I recorded the drums with one OH mic, one on the snare and one on the kick. I barely processed any signal because the drumkit was in a great shape and sound. But I regret now the fact that I recorded with one OH mic...it sounds kind of boring.

Anyway, I definately went for a raw drum track...but I'm starting to feel the need to make mixes that are a little bit more produced, maybe? I definately dont want to sound like...Hoobastank or Nickelback...but I guess I could spend more time trying to achieve a good performance and do a little bit more of processing in mixing stage. This goes for trying to make people whom I record perform better as well. I mean imperfect mixes are great IMO, but if I want to do it professionaly I have to put my tastes aside, right?

Anyway I loved the feedback and I'll try to improve my recordings and mixes...

God...is it F#7? I could swear that it was the minor one, lol.

It's definitely a raw performance, which seems like what you were going for. The mix is clean for sure, and pretty true to the era. I agree with an above poster - the snare drum is the only thing that I didn't like. But it's no big deal. Thanks for sharing man!

I liked it. Very open sounding and flows naturally...a little bit loose, which is a nice departure from programmed and mechanical sounds (i.e. it is "musical").
This raw style and sound makes it feel more like analog, too.

I think he means the second chord ... the one that hits right as you sing the third syllable of 'anybody' ..... that should definitely not be a minor.

The first chord "Do you need any-" is minor but when you sing the second half of the word anybody (in bold) it should change to a 7th chord so in your key I guess that's a F#7.

That was groovy. The video could use some more stuff going on. Like maybe throw in some wacky shit. Like running around the place, like an old the monkey's TV show LOL. This way it's more entertaining :p
