Beat Detection/Sync Issue

Hello,

I was hoping someone would be able to help me with a tempo syncing issue I’m having.

I’ve got some tracks I’ve exported from Sibelius 7 at 144 BPM and when I import them into a Reaper project set at 144 BPM the imported tracks are slightly faster and drift out of time from the metronome.

I have tried stretching the audio to make it fit the metronome, importing the tracks into protools 7 and cubase 5 but result in the same issue, and raping google for a solution but all with no success.

Lastly I have tried rewiring Reaper with Sibelius and record each track individually which is in sync but also records a lot of latency in the process so I would defiantly leave this is my last option.

Does anybody know a way for me to fix this issue of syncing my exported tracks or an alternative solution?

I have been quite fond of Reaper lately but I am willing to use Protools or Cubase to get the job done.

Kind regards,
KrisK

In the project tempo settings (alt+enter, I think, then select the second tab), there's a drop-down menu with some options as to how to handle tempo for new media in the project. Try messing with the settings for that.
e.g. if you set it to "Time only", your new media will be dropped as-is, unstretched into the project. Setting it to "beats, time, etc." will try to stretch it to match the tempo.

You can stretch tracks in reaper by holding alt and dragging the fist icon that appears when you hover over the end of the media. You can also get a little more fine-grained control by selecting the item and bringing up the setting for it (F2). There's a "rate" setting that stretches the item.

Maybe off-topic, maybe not...but I have no idea how to get REAPER to detect a tempo.I never really need that function, but I tried dropping in a click track that was playing at 120bpm, and REAPER "detected" it to be something stupid like 68bpm. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't think of anything that would be easier to detect than clicks falling right on the beat.

VomitHat you are the man!

How to align Sibelius exported tracks to Reapers metronome:

1. Drag exported WAV file into reaper as a new track
2. Select the track in Reaper and press F2 to bring up "Media Item Properties"
3. Change the "Playback rate" to 1.001000 (Note: Tested on various songs at different tempos)
4. Clip the extra beat Sibelius adds to the beginning of the exported track (Remember to do this AFTER you've done the time stretch or you'll run into problems)

Many thanks for helping me solve my problem.
Long live the beast Reaper!

Heh. It's pretty crazy that the issue is that consistent and reproducible!
Did you submit a bug report to Sibelius?

Ahh i don't exactly have access to Sibelius support, but would be nice if some some who did raised the issue.
But cheers again Vondos!
