First mix; I'll be re-recording it soon, but I wanted to get some opinions and suggestions for improvement first. Also, if you're into metal, check out "Heartwork - Practice", it's only a short piece I recorded for practice. :)

I'm also wondering if I'll ever be able to make up something on guitar that I can work with to write lyrics...most of my stuff just seems too much like theme music for words. Eh?

Nice tones. Around 0:55 I would double the solo line, or if you have a twelve-string (or maybe a mandolin) use that.

Any idea where the noise is coming from

I liked Heartwork quite a lot too. Again with the noise though. That's the only negative, really.

You know I still have something to send you, but you never responded to my message :( ;) Do you have phantom power?

Noise? :( They sounded pretty clean to me  Did you listen to it lo fi, hi fi, or download it?

About that thing, er, well *checks messages* No, I don't have a phantom power unit.

Hifi. Couldn't remember my Soundclick ID :( Have a listen to the first second of the track, that level of hiss is kinda high. If your gear is stuck with it, try a noise reduction plug.

Not here ;)

No, I don't have a phantom power unit.

Hmm. OK, I can get around that, what are you using?

Ahhh, hiss. Yeah, I have a noise reduction switch on my tascam 464, but I didn't use it because I dislike how it mellows out the whole sound. I'll be sure to use it on my next recordings. :)

Yeah I don't like those either. Try maybe a plug instead. I got one included with my DAW, but there's gotta be free ones out there.

Also make sure you are hitting the tape hot enough, I never learned that lesson until very late in my Tascam days. And ask on the Analog board for good tips, I'm not much of a tape expert . . . or really, even novice :o

definately noisey, not sure how you're recording but try watching your levels and try to remove unnecessarry stuff from the signal chain. you can only do so good with one of those tascam tape machines though :(

nice stuff regardless. would sound lovely with some reverb and bass.

ever listen to karl saunders? he's the guitar player from 'nile'. he did a solo album a while back that was just massive, dark acoustic stuff.

Acoustic piece was very nice...great playing. I heard the hiss noise also.

Heartwork...excellent playing. I'm jealous. Nice tones also.

Hey Grey Angel,

I liked your acoustic playing, especially your little lead playing, double picked piece in there!

Keep at it!!!...Nice playing!!

Gorty :)

That is some nice playing. :D :D :D

What equipment are you using to record with. Maybe some upgrades may be needed in the future. You definitely have the talent!

I used an old (90s model) TASCAM 464. It's my first 4-track, if you don't count the defective Fostex I got for my birthday :o Yes, upgrades will be coming, as soon as I get my nice big scholarship check :D

You can work against "mellowing" - the switch for NR should remain ON in record & playback. that should cause little if NO mellowing.
You do need to clean up that noise though. A start would be to cut the lead in silence (tape noise) much shorter.
The guitars sound pretty thin. I like the song & the playing seems pretty good too.
PLEASE redo this piece & maybe double mic each guitar.
Keep up the good work.
