Okay, so I bought one of these because they were highly regarded on another forum. It's been in my rack for a while now not being used. Does it really make that much of a difference in sound? I mean, I don't want to hook it up if all it is going to do is add more mids to my sound. I'm contemplating selling it...should I actually make the effort and hook it up?

Why don't you plug it in and listen to it???????????????????

Okay, you actually bought one based on recomendations, right? I mean, you really do have it right there with you, right?......So you're saying you would actually make a judgement call on selling it based on what someone told you right now rather than just checking it out for yourself? I don't mean to sound like an ass, but that just seems pretty silly to me....
Why not just try it?

Here is my 2 cents on the BBE Sonic Maximizer. It can sound frigging great. You have to be very careful with it though. What sounds good right now might sound too bright tomarrow when you have had a chance to listen with "fresh ears". Go easy on it and use it for very subtle changes during mastering.

I personally use a four band harmonic exciter in my mastering chain.

....unless you will need to dismantle some absurd architectural oddity or otherwise destroy something in the process of hooking it up......surely you see the folly in this?

ok.. so you bought it.. then didnt even feel like putting forth enough effort to hook it up so you want to sell it? what??? how hard is it to hook up a box? theres an in and an out... its not too complicated.

just sell it already! it's not gonna be that great anyway, you can use the money to buy a gallon of gasoline or something.

Simply put, I was at work when I posted this. I bought the damn thing on a recommendation and just haven't had the time to hook it up. Some people are busy. I don't know what you guys do but I have something every night pretty much. And when I don't, I take that time to relax because it's the only time I get to do that.

All I wanted was your input on the damn thing...not your fucking sarcasm.

So pull your heads out of your fucking asses and just tell me what you think of the damn thing. :D :D :D :D

Words of wisdom, guitar effects can be like one night stands, you wake up the next morning and say "What was I thinking?!"

I think maximisers can make things stand out in a mix,not always in a good way though.

No one is trying to be a smart ass. It's just you're asking how something you have in your possession sounds. Ask how anything sounds on here - half will tell you it's magic, the other's will say crap. Therefore, I will reiterate: hook it up and listen for yourself. It's your sound. And how can you argue that you don't have time to use it, etc., etc. - you already bought the thing.

you're asking how something you have in your possession sounds.

Well put, aaroncomp. We're not smartasses, we're just responding to the most basic issue here.

I think that all of the sonic maximizers should be gathered up, hauled down to New Orleans and used to rebuild the dykes. :D

This forum has a serious issues with sarcasm and passive aggressive behaviour. Blaming the original poster can't hide that truth. We're not all experts and forums are suppossed to be the place to interact with people. Not much would be goin' on here if we all figured things out for ourselves.

This is a very unwelcoming place for a newcomer.

The Sonic Maximizer does what it's supposed to do in my experience. :)

I had the 401 (or something) model a few years ago, then sold it. Sounded like a glorified loudness control. I'd now say it was yet another sonic placebo to twiddle, to think about and possibly set wrong, another component in the signal chain.....

Well, you did leave yourself open a bit there. In the time it took to think about and make your original post, wait for responses and answer those, you could have had the blasted thing hooked up.

Might have been an even better idea to post THE question BEFORE you bought the unit - far more efficient, and would have saved all that precious time (and money) it involved to buy it in the first place.

Also, there are a bunch of models out there, which one do you own? That might help in getting an accurate answer.

Better still, do a search and find the 4000 posted opinions already out there. They'll be exactly the same as anything posted today, tomorrow, or next week: some against, some indifferent, some praising the farken thing. Then you'll probably decide to form an opinion of your own and plug it in and finally decide for yourself.

Damn, that coffee again!!

I just got some negative rep simply for calling someone out on one of the most absurd questions I've ever seen.......
Somebody in here has some serious issues with rejection or something. :p

anyway......Yeah, it's junk. Go ahead and sell it dude. Unless you like the sound of sonic maximizers, then it's pretty awesome so you should use it on every track. There, does that settle it for you?

...gimme a break
