The V63 and V57 are the same mic, only the V63 has the battery power option. Damn nice mic for the price. Don't know about the MCA, but I wouldn't bet on it.
The V57/V63/1006 can be really good on male vocals. I imagine it would be pretty good for rap (with a pop filter), since it has a nice proximity effect. Keep your hand on the EQ, though.

I believe the MCA is basically the MXL 603/990 in yet another housing. I think heard it from somewhere on here, but just can't find it right now...

Yes, the capsule size would put it closer to the 600/990 range. Between the other two they look so identical why not take the one that offers the battery option if you ever need it?

All those mics blow. If you can only afford $40, you need to get a second job.

Under $100 the mics that are worth it:

Studio Projects B1 $79
MXL V67 $99
Behringer SCM8000 $39
Shure SM57 $79

Dan Richards
Digital Pro Sound
The Listening Sessions

How about the Oktava mk319??

heard good things about it, especially on these boards...

I snoozed, I lost.

Prices for the 57 & 63 have gone back up.

i think the 319 can hang with those.

i havent compared it directly to any of those mics (dont own them), but it sees some use in my studio of... well not world class mics, but besides 57s the 319 is about my cheapest mic. it is the first mic i reach for for VO stuff...

it would be interesting to throw it up there and compare. i would imagine that dot has done this.

Wow, I actually got in on a deal before it went a way! Hooray for me.

mxl 990 SUCKS!

I can PERSONALLY say that the MXL 990 is hands down the worst mic I've ever used (I'm no expert but)... It might do well in a battle in the "$2.00 and under category". Save your money if you're thinking of getting this, and buy a couple cans and connect them with string. That's what this mic sounds like. You could probably make one better with parts found in a cafeteria dumpster.

Yo Captain! The MK319 is a really different mic. I've A-B'd it on vocals against all kinds of stuff, from B-1 to B.L.U.E. Kiwi, and it has been a consistent winner on backing vocals, especially of the female persuasion. It has proven to be one of the best $99 purchases I've made. It's dark, and smooth, and simply different. It isn't an all purpose condenser, but the stuff it works on, it really works on. GC's been blowing them out the door for $50, and it looks like they're discontinuing the Oktava line. I'd say, grab one at that price now, if you can. You'll wind up buying other mics, but there will be those times when nothing else works, but MK319 just does. Check this clip, "Requiem", for an example of MK319 on backing vocals-

Where can I find them under $100 (or for $50) online? point the way, please.

apparently the v57 is up 10 bucks to 50 dollars, glad i got 2 at 40 bucks last week. They are ugly microphones i must agree, have not gotten a chance to listen to them yet but i will let you guys know what i find

Dot-

I clicked on the link you provided-the link to MF said that the product was discontinued.

Looks like MF has cleared all their Oktava stuff out.

Quick! Run to Guitar Center while you can and grab the last of them!

I received my V57M last night. Very cheesy looking mic. Looks like it was painted by a kid with a can of spray paint. The case was loose so unscrewed the bottom collar and looked inside. It just looks very cheaply made. I thought, oh well, for $40 bucks what did I expect. I plugged it into my DMP3 and was pleasantly surprized by what I heard. It actually has a very pleasant sound. I recorded my self singing with it and it sounded very usable. Haven't done any more than that so far so I can't say how well it will work with stacking tracks, but it sounds decent, especially considering the price. I'm sure I'll find some uses for it.

Blessings, Terry
