Wow, ya'll have such good habits. I use GHS Boomers, Long Scale Plus Medium Lights and change them every couple of years. I don't wipe 'em down very often. Once I boiled 'em. Okay the current set has been on for more like 3 years, about, roughly, um, maybe more. Still, the thump hits you like a baseball bat and that's what I like.

I've been thinking about going with flatwounds for the next set. Has anyone gone from rounds or skimmed rounds to flats and regretted it?

Have tried 50's Fender flatwounds (50's as in the size, not the age ;)) and didn't like them. Very full round sound, but no snap and no highs at all. So it might be what you want, try them out!

Elixers are great but cost too much. I like DR's alot. Personally I think they start to sound better as they age. I've tried Hi-Beams,Long Necks,Lo-Riders, and Fat Beams and have not been disapointed.

I use Hartke strings, but I think they stopped making them. They start off half-dead and stay that way for a long time. Mine last about 6 mo. to a year with a good bit of gigging, which is especially nice considering my friend who hasn't washed his hands in years constantly borrows my bass. :p
